View Full Version : SKirmish start positions

Guys I'm new here and to the game. Now admittedly I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I swear I can't figure out the whole start position thing on skirmish maps.

On any map more than a 2x2, no matter what "team" I pick for the AI they always start in the position right next to me. I would prefer them to be on the opposite side of the map. I have my settings set on "fixed" start positions... It seems that the only other choice is "random"

So the basic, question is.... if it's me versus 1 AI on a 4x4 or 6x6, how do I determine the start position of the AI, relative to where I am?

Thanks in Advance

You can't choose start locations. Sorry.

THat's a known issue that'll be fixed in future patches fortunately.

THat's a known issue that'll be fixed in future patches fortunately. Errr.. Source? Proof? I've never seen an objectives "to-do" list that can be substaniated for anything Relic is planning to do to resolve/tweak/enhance to DoW (ie. Router/NAT issues for DirectConnect was supposed to be fixed.. still waiting).. Love to know where these logs of what Relic is doing for forthcoming patches are as I think they're aren't. Just hot air as much as I'd love to believe anything.

Free choosing of start location would still be very useful, i hope they impelement it, or at least they should fix the meaning of "fixed location"

I seem to remember devs posting in threads on the issue before thud, but I dont think they ever gave a firm commitment that they would look at it in a patch. Suffice it to say they know people would like to be able to choose starting positions and if they had the time and resources to put it in they would...whether it definately will happen or not is another question.

Well, I am guessing we'll be seeing alot of nifty features in the expansion.

This had better be fixed, or I'll rant ineffectually on a webforum and threaten to never buy any of Relic's, NO THQ's, games again.

Only to be shouted down by losers who love to lick some company's virtual nuts. :(

Guys? "Random" will automatically sort each team onto opposing sides of the map. "Fixed" will place them in their numerical ordering on the map. The first player can't choose their spot (which is a bug) but you can select the spots for everyone else by their join order.
It is 95% functional, learn to use it before you assert that there is "no way" to control where you start.
