Wanted to test out my new avatar in a short little 1000 point game with his current rules.

Dead in 1 round of Constant Bolter Fire.

Sure, they need 6s to Wound, BUT.. he Only gets a 5+ invulnerable save and has 4 wounds. He sustained a total of 8 wounds =P and i was lucky enough to save 3 of them, but he doesn't have 5 wounds.

Not like a termi who gets the optional 2+ armor save/5+ invul save.

I miss the Old Avatar :( He was a force to be reckoned with.

Eldar got the nerfbat in their latest Codex, now almost 1/2 of the old models can't be used in game anymore. Eg.) Rangers with powerswords. They did incorporate Warp Spiders, and i must say they're pretty kickass.

Can't use force weapons anymore (Warlocks/Farseer) which got replaced with Witchblades and Singing Spears which aren't nearly as Effective IMO.

Eldar are still doing good though. Their Aspect warriors are great.

Personally, I'd rather have a Wraithlord as my HQ Then a Damn Avatar though. Impenetrable by Small Calibur Fire, 3 Wounds, and a Strength of 10. and a 3+ Armor Save. Can't complain about that. That blows away a strength of 6, Toughness of 6.

I'm actually workin on a Conversionfor the Wraithlord to Dual Wield 2 Avatar Wailing Dooms just for the effect.

Anyone else feel the Avatar is.. well.. Lacking hardcore?

The question is, how many SHOTS did he absorb. Statisticly, you would need 54 bolter shots to take down one Avatar, so you must have had bad luck.

But yes, the avatar is really only one big meatshield right now. He needs to be upped, in abilities and points costs, to something more like a greater deamon.

On the bright side he just bought most of your army another 6-12" of closed range or an unhassled shooting phase, whichever they require. Kepp opponents afraid of him and they'll waste half their firepower trying to take him out.

It's the same in any army, my ork dread was as good as dead in the 1st round, i had both of the opponants firing at it blowing off gunz, an arm and immobilsing it :madashel:
They want to take out what they're most scared of facing, (hey, I'd be scared of an Avatar :jaw:).

the avatar should be at least t7 s7, with an 4+inv armour save, with a slight point increase. Damn, he has worse save than a warlock and is much easier to kill than a wraithlord, and he is an avatar of a GOD? Pathetic...

You talk about the change from 2nd to 3rd ed as if it was yesterday. The change from 3rd to 4th is now old hat. All characters were made less powerful in 3rd and 4th edition than they were in second edition. The game is better for it.

Not T7, people will bitch too much. Aso other Daemons/MC are T6. The only exception is the Wraithlord which is designed to be about as resilient as a dread (OK and the new carni, that can be T7)

i win all my matches without him.

I have him as a centerpiece model because he DOES look great.

I've never actually played with him.

I take my army in as Farseer, 5 warlocks, 2 Farseers 10 warlocks, spamming mindwar and eldritch storm.

From there, i have my Fire Dragons on the frontlines behind a meaty shield of guardians that take the hit and prime for Fusion fire. Swooping hawks in deepstrike, spamming Grenade Packs, Vypers harrassing with Crystal Targetting matrix, and Striking Scorpion Deep in enemy lines to take some shells.

If i want to spice it up, i throw Karandras Phoenix Lord with my Howling Banshees so they all can Fleet of Foot and gain a +2 attack bonus when charging for Suprise Assault.

And if i really want to piss off my opponent, i field 2 Wraithlords, and a Fireprism in between, and have Baharroth wreak havoc on any Command squad.

This is not all 1 build, its different builds.

Sometimes i'll swap my guardians out for a 3 Squads of 7 Eldar Rangers.

:)

But it never really includes Avatar, because i DO find Farseer much more resilient and more "safe" he has 3 wounds compared to the 4, and a 4+ invul, 4 powers, 2 offensive with 18 inch range, and a posse of Firepower Destructor (heavy flamers, God, they're great) and they have 4+ invuls.

Of course its more pricey (i want a seer council, but i'm vanilla, not Ulthwe') But the bonuses all around (jacks of all trades i must add) are irreplacable then a WS 10 (maximum of 3+ to hit, and a Maximum of 5+ to get hit unlike the 2+ - 6+ threshold on wounding) have to crawl up to enemies and swing away, take all the firepower. When farseen and warlocks can chuck Singing Spear for 3d6 armour penetration on vehicles, or in close combat, swing for 3d6 armour penetration on vehicles.

and how about those wounds on 2+s automatically? :p
