What do you people think the weapon that most people think is bad the you think is actually better then its given credit for. me i personally think the lasgun is because sure its only str 3 with no ap but it has the ability to pretty much kill any basic troop in the game beacause of the sheer number of them you have. plus its always good to have an extra flashlight around.

er yeah maybe as its one of the few underestimated weapons. mortars are often overlooked but can come in useful at times, along with sniper rifles.

Mega blastas are underused,im sure they kick butt in game though, never tried them though.

Can we make this 'most underestimated weapon/wargear/unit?'
Unit = Ratlings. What's better than 5 little critters with snipaz for $10?
Wargear = Dunno
Weapon = Dunno

If you're not going to contribute to wargear, why would you ask?
Just answering the question... :soul:
I would say sniper rifle...or venom cannon against vehicals...(bah! only glancing? what a crappy weapon...untill your land raider gets destroyed by three shots from a hive tyrant or carnifex...)

orks shooting. First, you laugh at bs2, and after that you see 20 incoming rokkits and a wagon of other dakka.

Flamers. Short-ranged, but highly effective. Heavy flamers are... well, I would tell you how much I love them, but it would sound pretty homo-erotic when referring to something called a 'flamer.'

don't laugh but i say lasguns cuz just think if u within 12" from a full unit 18 shots to a 8 man SM squad probably about 5-10 saves gotta fail some
over-rated: even though i play GK i say the Psycannon, only good agianst demon-like things i mean really who has more than a 4+ armour save??? yeah i thought so (my ap on the psycannon might be wrong cuz i havent played since january)

Shot guns, 2 str 3 ap - shots, then assault.
Brother Wolf
27th May 05, 5:42 PM
Yeah, with the new rapid fire rules, shotguns are going to become more popular among the 12" crowd. 10 men w/ lasguns: 0 shots in shooting, 20 attacks in assault. 10 men w/ shotguns: 20 shots in shooting, 20 attacks in assault. Go figure...

Shotguns rule!
metalfan666
27th May 05, 6:34 PM
shot guns seem ok for guardsmen, if they're cheap. For SM (scouts) they aren't the best choice.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...............................................................................................................................................................
Is it legal to create your own dotrine for guard called 'everyone gets shotguns'? And make it so a unit can trade in its lasguns for shotguns for 5pts?
BlindManBoots

No, it's not.

I've been a fan of the shotgun for a long time...but in an IG army, only veteran squads can have everyone taking them I think... :(

Slick, with home rules, yes you can.

No, they realy are shit, at leasty for the points cost compared to a rokkit launcher.
Multi meltas, no one uses them ever, for anything. But i will, once i get around to making a marine army!
Aquila
27th May 05, 8:34 PM
I think EVERYONE uses them in Landspeeder squads. Multi-meltas are freaking awesome.
Gorkamorka

Kustom Mega Blastas are overkill! :smash:
But I dont see the point in having shotguns instead of Lasguns. Assaulr instead of rapid fire, or something else?

You can shoot then charge with shotguns.

Hmmm... One that hasn't been mentioned... How about Splinter Cannons? Many moons ago when i tried DE they were pretty effective at adding some serious anti-infantry power.
Underused, I'd say Thunderhammers. Awesome weapons.

My Opinion
Underestimated: Tau Flamers
Overestimated: Necron Staff of Light
Underused: Scout Shotguns
Overused: Lascannons

I think EVERYONE uses them in Landspeeder squads. Multi-meltas are freaking awesome.
I think they were testing multi meltas on some new IG units for WA
But the most underated weapon maybe......hellguns or powerclaws-why is it that everyone seems to use power fists instead? or is that just all the SM players out there as in 99.9% of the wargamming populace :)

I'm gonna go with las-guns for the reasons stated above.
Generally, they're pretty shit, but when you get 20+ guardsmen rapid-firing you are going to start causing serious damage.

What's a power claw? :?:

What's a power claw?
An ork powerfist or something similar to that.

Why put a multimelta on a landspeeder when you can have an assault cannon?

I was getting confused with Lightning Claws but I still stand by what I said Powa Klawz are still underrated.

Oh...lighting claws are good...
But what are the rules for ''powa klaws"?
At least, what makes them so good?

The orks have a secrect tactic that they use there power claws for: Grab and Twist
You can guess what I mean.

29th May 05, 10:30 PM
You will all SUFFER!
First its Power Klaws, NOT Powa.
Second they have the same rules as powerfists, except they are WAY cooler.
Third, that statement about SM being 99,9% of the gamers...that sounds true :(
SlickWilly

If they had a special Grab and Twist rule, they could kick SM ass.

Wouldn't It be cool If SM players were rare, like in the fluff, and there were heaps of IG/ Tyranid/ Ork players... :)
And Lightning Claws, If anything, are Overrated- not that they aren't ''teh ROXXORZ!!1!!1''

I tend to stick with my 7 man troop of sniper marines scouts and pray to god they hit. I mean seriously they hit on a 2 plus and wound on a 4 they pin and they roll 2 d6 for armour pen, thats a good thing to have out in the middle of no where with the infiltrate rule or am i just nuts? slap some arftificer armour on the vetrane scout give him honours and a sniper rifle and you have some half decent power, while your at it use all your troop selections for scouts, 13 points for them and 5 for the sniper, and only a one point decrese in save for armour and it still has all the same deal as a reg marine. :lurk:

Haemonculus flamer... I dunno how much it costs, but no one thinks of it cuz you usually assault the bastard. But it uses a flamer template and causes a strength 3 or 4 hit on every guy. But the ringer is that for each model your opponent rolls a D6 for the AP. Last game I played, I lost 7 Marines in an Honor Guard because he rolled for an AP of 3 or less on 7 guys.

Untill you figure out that they can't hurt carnifexes...
But that's what my 8 lascannons, 2 Battle Cannons, 1 demolisher cannon, 14 heavy bolters, 8 grenade launchers, 2 melta guns, and krak grenades are for.
The 73+ lasguns are just random filler. :)
But seriously, the lasgun. when you have 80 flashlights pointed at you, you can get sunburned pretty quickly.
Tau flamer? Sounds illogical.

don't knock lasguns dude, they are seriously deadly. they can give you skincancer!!! OH NOES SKINCANCER!!
they will kill you, It'll just take 20 years!

Nah, i have lasgun fear. Seriously, i'd say that the deathspinners on warpspiders are way under respected. They are NASTY. People bag them because they are AP - and therefore don't auto-penetrate marines.
SlickWilly
2nd Jun 05, 8:36 PM
I dont have lasgun fear, because no ones used them on me. Id seriously say the most under rated wepaon in the Game is the Fleshborer. When these bastards hit they can tear through guard. Its soo annoying to kill half a squad of Termagaunts and then have them kill enough gaurdsmen to make you take a morale test... almost lost a game like that. (we never finished it, though)

In my experience, the weapon people have underestimated most in my army is...
a twin-linked las razorback
I've used one in many 1000 - 1500 pts games, often as my primary vehicle based AT unit, and it's almost never shot at. My opponents seem to ignore it, despite its nack for blowing up valuable enemy tanks. I never understood why, when my only other armoured vehicle was a dred, it didn't die sooner

Wow. Either you're very sneaky or your opponents are totally clueless, but in either case, nice work :D
