E3 would be on for 5 minutes, if Ultimate Gamer is on at 10:30, and E3's at 10:25. I'd probably learn more, and be more entertained, just using Google for learning more about E3.

SpikeTV blows, over commericialized and lacking in quality programming. Not to mention all the video games that they promote are the shitty football ones and Halo. Do I have mention their video game awards ceremony and how shittacular it is?

Hablacraja
7th Jun 05, 5:05 PM
No, you don't.

I like Spike TV for CSI reruns, MXC and cop pursuit shows. The rest is crap.

I'm assuming you're talking about the American football, Nova. I can't remember what edition I played (one is released every year, idiotic isn't it), but I have played a demo of one of them. I think it's actually quite fun, and I'm not even into American football or sports games in general. They kick the crap out of the AFL footy games they've released for Australian rules.

Would it have killed you to spell "tonight" correctly?

TheLoneKnight

I was actually mildly excited about this supposed E3 ultimate gamer thing when you mentioned it..

Of course I've now seen it and know that E3 was hardly the focus, that the "ultimate gamer" was in fact a football-obsessed black guy who looked like he could play the actual thing, who lived with his mother and had no job.

In the end they gave him an interview with Activision as a playtester.

IMHO he was neither an "ultimate gamer", nor did the (half hour long!) show really tell us anything about E3.

Long story short: It sucked. I want my half hour back. :(

YEAH i was exicted too ,then as it wore on it got really boring and that guy was not a gamer..unworthy of the title.:bow2: i'm not worthy, but he did get a job for activision or not
hope he likes star trek the flag ship of the company..(i think)

The police arrest a man for breaking another man's legs with a baseball bat. Hauled up before a judge, he says "But other people have done much worse--hell, some people are murderers!" Does this mean he shouldn't be punished?

that is a racist sterotype(remember Fuzzy Zoeller) you.. could offend some ppl be careful what you say i dont need a flame war here.

jpaugh78
8th Jun 05, 11:33 AM
Sorry, it sounded funny in my head. I just watched that "Me, Myself and Irene" movie too, where the black midget limo driver was beating the dude up because when he said "do you people take checks" he thought he meant black people. he made the fried chicken reference to. Sorry if it was uncalled for. I'm not racist, i swear, i just have a questionable sense of humor from time to time.

Capt.Katana
8th Jun 05, 11:54 AM
never said you were racist just said some ppl might take offense that might read it..
if you look i really made fun at the end ..because i do like chicken,i'm black and i also love my bbq too..lol
so it was more for anyone that happens upon this thread and gets upsets.
i personally cannot be affective by something i really have no control over ..
but i think as a reminder some in the the forum my take offense..whether Black, White,European, Hispanic,Asiantic,Indian,Arabic..
we still live in a social world where we can't get past superficial differences and however small a joke can be some find it funny others, well it depends on who it is directed at.so no need to apolgize..if it makes you feel better apology accepted.:elephant:

"I'm not a racist, I just make jokes about racial stereotypes and I think they're funny in my head."

What do you think racism is, exactly?

Bonnet
8th Jun 05, 2:40 PM
Racism is assuming that a person is unequal to you because of there skin color and treating them differntly because of there skin color. Its not racist to say that black people like fried chicken, he isn't somehow conoting that its wrong to like friend chicken, just that black people do. I would also like to point out that stertypes have a tendency to be true, otherwise they wouldn't be sterotypes, I for one know that all of my black friends love chicken, whats wrong with saying that (generally) black people love chicken?

Note: Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying people should be treated differntly because of racial sterotypes, just that the assumption that a sterotype is some how inately wrong is inane.

SquidDNA
8th Jun 05, 3:07 PM
And making jokes about someone behind their back (or to their face, unknowingly) isn't treating them differently? Saying that someone would like fried chicken more than the opportunity to be a playtester because of their skin color doesn't assume some kind of inequality?

I'm not saying that Jpaugh burns crosses because he made a joke about a racial stereotype. But it is wrong, in this context.

jpaugh78
8th Jun 05, 3:50 PM
Okay, okay okay. I was wrong to have said anything linking black people and fried chicken. I'm sorry. May he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Bonnet
8th Jun 05, 4:23 PM
And making jokes about someone behind their back (or to their face, unknowingly) isn't treating them differently?
Not making jokes behind someones back on the internet WOULD be treating them differntly (how many jokes about cj's girly figure have you seen...), unless he only does so to black people its not racist. Also, he wasn't saying that he would prefer chicken to being a play tester BECAUSE he is black, but rather that he wasn't enjoying himself and Jpaugh applied the sterotype to find something he would enjoy more. Again, why is that wrong?

Black gamers!? And athletic? OH DEAR GOD!
Oh yes and to this, beleive it or not Black and athletic is a description, Lone did not say anything about his being Black making it worse, simply that he was Black. I find it absurd that you are offended by describing someone as "black", because that would imply you think it's bad to be black...

TheLoneKnight
8th Jun 05, 4:42 PM
..Thanks, zbobet. I was afraid of mentioning it myself lest I face the wrath of an angry cephalapod.. :(

Squiddy has gotten a bit scary in this thread... c_c;

Also; I can't believe he didn't freak out when the guy took a sledgehammer to his computer. All I could think is: "Dude, what about his installed games? What about files that he had on there? WAS THERE A CD/DVD IN THE FREAKING HARD DRIVE?!"

..that show was ridiculous... I would murder someone if they just walked in and killed my computer, regardless of if they replaced it with something better-- I have gigabytes of files/stories/pictures on here that I consider irreplaceable.

SquidDNA
8th Jun 05, 5:03 PM
It implies that there's something incongrous about gaming, and being black and athletic in TLK's mind. That's what I was trying to point out. If it wasn't a description he saw as important to follow "ultimate gamer was in fact" I'm curious to know why he included it, because by the construction of the sentence, that's where all the stuff which shows someone is not the "ultimate gamer" is supposed to go.

Jokes about CJ's figure I've always seen made with the assumption that he would see them, they're equivalent to a poke in the ribs. It's a bit ambitious to broadcast a poke in the ribs to everyone who might read it, based on their skin color.

TheLoneKnight
8th Jun 05, 5:15 PM
Actually he didn't look like an "Ultimate Gamer" to me primarly because he was this huge guy who looked more at home playing football than he would playing video games..

I mean, can you picture big-name football players playing videogames enough to earn the title of "Ultimate Gamer"?

To me becoming an Ultimate Gamer would mean a severe sacrifice of time and effort to actually become so great at video games that you -deserved- the title.

In the show it never attributed anything toward his gaming skills that made him any better than your average gamer either, so yeah, I found it surprising that they gave him the title of "Ultimate Gamer" without showing any reason that he deserved it. His appearance being that of what is stereotypically a "Jock" only furthered the oddness of the entire show.

SquidDNA
8th Jun 05, 5:22 PM
Okay, so "jocks" are typically black?

I have a feeling this can keep going for some time.

TheLoneKnight
8th Jun 05, 5:25 PM
Especially if you manipulate everything I say into something racist. No, Jocks aren't typically black. It was his appearance physically that conveyed the appearance of "Jock" to me. Broad shouldered, huge, well-muscled. Skin colour had nothing to do with it-- I was just adding it in the description for people who hadn't seen the show so that they could accurately picture the guy and not assume that he was asian or white or purple. :p

SquidDNA
8th Jun 05, 5:44 PM
I'm not manipulating anything, I'm just explaining how it looks. As you were in the middle of listing negative attributes, it might have been better to pick some other time to describe those attributes which are neutral to your argument (and "set the stage"), especially considering some like skin color that tend to be jumped on. After all, it's not that important that he's black or asian or white, while it's important to your argument that he's muscular.

man i really had this long post i was going to put on here but this is crazy:Slap: everbody slap themselves once and:grouphug: man we were all wrong..
wrong in jumping the gun
wrong in calling it out of color like we did
wrong in not letting it die down
wrong in jokes of sometimes could be poor humor unless you are a paid actor..
and having black friends does not give you a pass to every black person. may be where your at but not outside of it sorry lol that's like saying justin timberlake is cool with snoop dogg and he can come to compton anytime walk around and say what's up..:argh: ...stereotypes are just what they are
but they are not all true.watching chapelle or chris rock does not make you a expert either.(nobody voted them to be a spokeperson for every black person)we just like to here them joke ..like richard pryor
i joked while i put up my post about jpaugh78 saying what he said give him a break.
it's not like john rocker or anything
and this is the web you have to have thick skin or you are gonna be miserable on the net.
lone knight did say description to the effect
but i never took that the wrong way..
now say that with bananas and it might look different..you know what it's always those damn canucks fffing stuff up..lol see a stereotype.

and i know Squid is not defending me ,he is talking about what was said ..

so in the immortal words of rodney king ..can't we all just get along:luff: please close this thread now..discuss race some other time...i feel bad for posting the whole thing in the first place ..tv show sucked ass..:lurk:
