View Full Version : Annoying Unit Response Time Online

I hope I'm not the only one, but I cannot play multiplayer because my units don't instantly respond to my commands. Telling a unit to build something, move away or attack, may result in the unit actually performing that action 2-4 seconds after I click. It makes it impossible to micro, and dance, especially early game. I have lost a couple of games because I could properly control my squads early game, where micro is very important. I have turned off fullres_teamcolour but the last game I played, it was even worse than having the game completely maxed out with Anti-Aliasing. I have very fast internet and never get lag like this in any games, so what the heck is wrong?

oh,that I dont know If its the same problem I had.One game I couldent even control my units everything was going cocoo. My allies told me to do Ctrl+Alt+enter during a game and everything get's back to normal. Its something where the games goes off set.Try it see if it works, worked for me.
I think it might be the growing trend of building retarded units. By this i mean sometimes when you move them, they either get stuck in another squad or don't do anything.
You can really see it happen when in battle, a few games today i ordered my men to retreat, in one squad, only 1 marine decided to run, the rest of the squad just stood there. Wtf is that about? It was a normal squad, not reinforced and was not being reinforced and only one runs?
Also too many times after running away my men think it'll be a great idea to turn around and fight and die, and sometimes that doesn't even happen when they break during running (which is now like 100% that they stop and shoot) i seen my men just randomly turn and fight and it is not good karma.
:elephant: :notlisten :mecha:

It's not like that because I never gets problems in skirmishes, it just takes a unit a while to respond once you give him an order. e.g. You tell your defiler to attack the enemy. In a skirmish game, he will instantly move towards the target and attack, online it takes a unit 2-4 seconds to relize I gave it an order.
Thanks IceCream, I'll try to see if it works.

Yea, Ojka, I noticed that strange behavior also. I dont mind units losing their orders when broken, tho it seems badly illogical that they stand and fight if given an order to retreat, but, order losing of non-broken units must be considered a bug.
Hey Spectre, get used to the godly GamseSpy services. ;) I remember TBS posting that latency around 200 is innoticeable, well, in fact it has a great impact, and most of the time its waaaay higher. And, limiting online servers to USA-only seems like nacism to me. I'm not American, yet I dont see any reason why I should get my online play that more limited while paying the same amount of cash.

I've noticed that sometimes, if one man in a whole squad that is running dies, the WHOLE squad immediately stops moving. Makes it hard to evade orks.

in both online play and skirmish i noticed that if you control more then 2 fully equipted squads they will just stop listening to your orders as they are supposed too.
example:
i play as space marines, imagine an atack of 3 SM squads against eldar(duh) with bolters and flamers, some are in cover some are not, i want them ALL to atack the enemy so i pressed ATACK+MOVE behind the eldar base so my troops will mow everything down until all of the eldar scum is dead, the marines however act odd.
1 squad moved, one didnt, and the other one moved 5 troops right under the eldar noses without even atacking.
WTF?
sure you might tell "just right click noob", yeah i can do it but i dont want to focus fire on ONE thing i want them to atack everything, and it would cause some of the marines that are actually atacking to re-deploy their guns, which would make the battle far difficult.
something is just wrong with this.

problem in 1.2 now 1.3 its the new era of "Marines go Super to stupid" guys accept it our men are now officaly retarded.

I just played again and same thing, order to unit doing something lag. Oh well, skirmish4ever then.
I have searched and found another thread like this. I'm getting the exact same thing as this guy. I'm gonna read the thread.
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=38977&highlight=mouse+click+lag
And after reading every single post in those 6 pages, I'm still back where I started.

Attack-move never worked well for ranged units in this game anyway. And from the little I have played in 1.3 I have never had this retarded unit problem. The solution I have found to squads that get some members lost and arent attacking is to tell them to stop, normally works.
well got exactly the same problem as u spectre... read nearly all threads only scratching this issues core.. but i dindt find a thing.. and i really know how f***in annoying it is... well anywayz whati dont understand is that my ping to gamespy peerchat server is 240 ms but this lag seems like a ping of 1.5k

I think it has something to do with the computer of the person who hosts. I played WC3 with my friend who has 32mb video card, pentium II CPU, and 300 old ram, and I had the same problem. It really kills micromanagement.

Welcome to the wonderful world of network induced delay, aka "lag" for the uninitiated. You're at the mercy of the slowest computer in a multiplayer game, and the slowest connection. Until technology advances to the point where every computer has a miniature wormhole for transmitting and receiving data the network issues will happen.
Learn to work with it like the rest of us do.

Then how do the pro's compete since it's impossible to micro effectivally with this wonderfull lag?
