Gave proof (http://www.transformerslive.com/) through the night, that July 4th 2007 is a date to watch out for. :D
TRANSFORMERS" OPENS NATIONWIDE 07-04-07
“TRANSFORMERS” WILL BE MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE AT THEATRES NATIONWIDE ON 07-04-07
The live-action “Transformers” movie has been set to open nationwide on 07-04-07, it was jointly announced today by DreamWorks Pictures, Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), and Paramount Pictures.
The feature, based on the globally popular Transformers franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay (upcoming “The Island,” “Armageddon”) from a screenplay being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (upcoming “The Island”). Tom DeSanto (“X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”), Don Murphy (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (upcoming “Four Brothers”) are producing the film, with Steven Spielberg (“War of the Worlds”) and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner executive producing, and Ian Bryce serving as line producer.
In making the announcement, DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, “Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that ‘Transformers’ is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release.”
“Fans around the world have wanted a Transformers live-action movie for a long time and we are thrilled to work with DreamWorks and Paramount to bring this legendary saga to life on the big screen,” said executive producer Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro’s U.S. Toy segment. “With some of the entertainment industry’s best talent on board for this film, fans will experience Transformers in a way that is incredibly powerful.”
DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film’s creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film.
This week, DreamWorks is launching the official “Transformers” movie website (www.transformers.com) at Comic-Con International, being held from July 13 – 17 in San Diego, California. “Transformers” will also be making its presence at the convention known in a big way, with a huge 18-wheeler truck sporting the instantly recognizable Transformers logo dominating the area near the DreamWorks booth—and much of the convention floor—letting thousands of fans know that “Transformers” is coming to the big screen on 07-04-07.
Introduced in 1984, the Transformers brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the Autobots versus the Decepticons. The innovative “Robots in Disguise” resulted in a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and an animated feature film. More than 20 years later, a new generation has discovered the excitement of the Transformers brand and its legendary characters, including the two leaders of the opposing sides: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on the Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from IDW Publishing.
DreamWorks SKG was formed in October 1994 by its three principal partners—Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. The studio is actively involved in the production of live-action motion pictures and network and cable television programs, and the distribution of live-action and animated feature films, as well as home video entertainment.
Hasbro (NYSE:HAS) is a worldwide leader in children's and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys, such as MONOPOLY and G.I. JOE, ranging from traditional to high-tech. Both internationally and in the U.S., its PLAYSKOOL, TONKA, MILTON BRADLEY, PARKER BROTHERS, TIGER, and WIZARDS OF THE COAST brands and products provide the highest quality and most recognizable play experiences in the world.
Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIAB), one of the world’s largest entertainment and media companies and a leader in the production, promotion, and distribution of entertainment news, sports and music.

..I just hope that it's more intelligent than the anime-inspired crap they're putting on TV these days.
I want the old super-vicious and hilariously bizarre Megatron. :D
"Pistol transformation pwnz your semi, n00b!"
Edit: Jebus, that is one BEEEG truck. Optimus is gonna be huge. That's a pretty good sign right there. :D
EditEdit: Omg! Look! In the news it says someone STOLE OPTIMUS PRIME'S LISCENCE PLATE.
GAHAHAHAHAHAA!
/me waits for Optimus to get pulled over by the local police, wondering how the hell they're going to give a ticket (or impound) a multi-tonne robot of destruction

Looks...ok. If its anything like the new transformers its gonna be shit. It should be full of Uber-Vicious robots of destruction slaughtering each other, and actual battle damage! Im tired of the shit I occasionally see on cartoon network where optimus gets hit in the chest with a mega-beam thingey and just flys back... I wanna see some deadly shit!
Evil Robotron thingey: Beam cannon, fire!!!
Optimus: Arrgh-BOOM!!!
Little children: Holy shit! Optimus just got his head blown off anf now hes spurting oil out of his jugular pipe! Eek! hes on fire!
Stuff like that.

Transformers were *awesome* back in the day. The current generation of shows, though, is horrible. I hope they make it more like the original, but hopefully without the silly morals bit where they go 'Only you can prevent forest fires!' or whatever.

W00t a live Transformers movie! From the shape/look of Prime's trailer it looks to me this could be based off the original series which is great because the new ones [Energon or something] are crap.

Ditto. i've been waiting for this for a LONG time. :D
'sides, judging from what I saw in the anime Transformers shows, the movie couldn't possibly be any worse. Hell, after all, the Transformers cartoons started off in America. It was Japan that fucked up the new generation of Transformer shows. ;)
And 'sides, when they mean by Family oriented, it most likely means "Family of old Transformers fans." :D
Edit: Shin... I wonder what would happen if I ever named my future son "Star Scream?" :D

Wonder if it'll have that big metal planet in it, Cybertron wasn't it, damn what a crap name for a planet, but it was an interesting idea, only seen anything similar in Total Annihilation with the core homeworld. I can't remember the story very well, think they both lived there until they didn't like each other then started fighting or something.
I'll wait till there's actually some film captures or trailers.

What the techno magi said. Well, erm, some anime is also like that but at least the designs are cooler :p
I say the film will be a CGI-driven movie with a plot that barely fits into the pre-established "canon" killing off 55% of the main characters, leaving a female & male robot at the end. Oh wait...that's what most [Action] hollywods are: CGI driven. :-\
i'm more interested in cameroons Gunnm, and the anime version of highlander. Amercian cartoons? Blehhhhh... spongebob is ok. :tooth:

Oh dear god!
When will these dodgy wanabee animes just stop coming? Sure the old ones are okay because the "baddies" win (3/4 times) but the new ones, bah. You know that the main character is going to scrap through because the baddie was careless, was outnumbered, had some lame gimmic, or/and had to go away because of other "bussiness". All of these apply to Yu Gi Ho, Pokemon, Gigimon quite fairly.
Those T.V shows have scarred me for life when I had to do a review on a early children's T.V show for English.

I just loved it back when, in the old series, the Transformers' Leaders were intelligent, and the Decepticons were vicious and always had the best stuff.
In the old old series weren't Decepticons the only ones who could fly in their robot form?
And didn't they also get the first "omgwtf, THAT THING IS EFFING HUGE" Transformer-- created out of multiple smaller Decepticons?
Personally I loved it when Optimus either outsmarted Megatron, or saved the children but lost the Energon..
It was great because the Decepticons always had an advantage. The only way Prime's boys could win was either by skill (ie; I shoot you more than you shoot me.. or maybe I just turn into a car and drive you off a cliff :D) or when Megatron got backstabbed by his own men.
All I can do is hope that in this movie Optimus cannot turn into some multi-transformer "omgwtfyoudie" robot, and that both factions' leaders are intelligent (and in Megatron's case, vicious), and that it doesn't turn into a ridiculous "Omg, I are Megatron, I are teh l33t, you cannot bea--" *explosion, good guys win* kind of situation.
Let's see the Decepticons win because Optimus cares too much for fleshy little bags of water.
..Or at least lets see both Optimus and Megatron all but turned to scrap by laserfire and still duking it out on some desolate wasteland until one of them dies a slow and melodramatic death. :D

hopefully they will get the old prime to do the voice, not geoge fucking clooney, or other some actor. And like theloneknight said keep it intelligent. Some of the eposodes are of a great standard, some of it really good sci-fi stories. Hopefully they will make the new movie sort of like the old movie. That mature feel (mature when i was 8 anyway), with death amd consequences, and real belieavable charecters (although they are robots)

15th Jul 05, 6:06 PM
Beasties at least kept the general intelligence level of Megatron & Optimus to a decent level.
Except for that irritating "Yeess.." thing that Megatron did-- I don't know where the hell they got that from.
But still: In this movie Decepticons NEED to be stronger and better than the Autobots.
Decepticons always had the upper hand in combat due to their seemingly being designed for combat, while the Autobots were designed as..what? Assorted factory workers or something? :p
Ah well-- the reason the old show was so great was because the Autobots were eternally the underdogs. The Decepticons almost always got the best new equipment, most Energon, deadliest tactics.. They always had that air of superiority.
What the Autobots had was organization, morals, and Optimus Prime-- and always managed to come out of the conflict having saved the humans, beaten off the decepticons, or getting completely routed.
And even how the series played out was more mature. When the Autobots or Decepticons got hit by laserfire you tended to see them actually get -hurt-. Megatron would shoot some stubborn Autobot in the back, laughing his butt off, and the shot would totally destroy the poor SOB.

Yes. Starscream was an awesome, triumphant return to the old series. :D
I would be tempted to agree with you that the "yeeess" thing was interesting at first, but he just seemed to say it too often. It got excessively corny after a while.
Ah well.. With any luck we'll see a good Starscream impersonater with the same awesome backstabbing moments that he was reknown for. :D

I also kinda liked whatever Transformers series it was that came on after Beast Wars, that continued the story. I didn't like the animation too much and some of the plot was whack but it was rather dark for a kid's cartoon, and I was a kid at the time so I was like WOAAHH

**Retro weighs in.
Transformers Series 1 sucked. The show was about three frames per second at the absolute best of times. Nobody could ever, ever hit anything they shot at, and when they did, it didn't actually DO anything to it. Everyone loved Optawuss, but my take is it's the voice.
Transformers the movie sucked. Sure, it had some new characters and some excellent-for-it's-time animation with the transforming planet and all, and I'll give credit to that wonderful "You've got the touch" song, but c'mon - a chickie robot that immediately becomes the damsel in distress? The four-faced head-spinny "judges"? Geebuz.
Transformers: Beast Wars series 1 was quite good. Ditto Series 2 - high marks for style.
Transformers the current cartoon series sucks worse than Series 1 did. It's awful. Absolutely awful.
---------
All that being said, I think I'll wait and see an actual movie trailer before I decide anything about the movie. Otherwise I'm just another big hypevictim.

Tranformers the movie, man that was some awsome stuff. The scene I remember the most was when Starscream fucking backstabed Megatron by throwing his wounded form out of the ship. Blew my mind as a youngen, as starscrem was my favorite character. Then Megatron came back as what was it unitron? Fucking blew starscream away in one shot again blowing my mind.
