can't start battles

i've just installed patch 1.2 + 1.3 in the correct way.
i already had 1.01 and 1.1, and the game worked fine.
now, whenever i go to skirmish, i can select the map and the race, but no victory conditions appear.
if i open the conditions menu, there are no victory conditions there at all.
the game CTD after a while if i do not exit this menu.

it also CTD in mission mode when the map has loaded, but now units appear anywhere.
can anyone help?

uninstall the game, delete the install folder and reinstall. Run the game once before patching to create a profile and then repatch.

i've done this, and the win conditions appear now, but it still crashes.

Update your graphics card drivers (to the 5.6 Catalysts if possible, apparantly the 5.7s cause problems with DoW).

do you know where i can get the 5.6 for ati radeon xp?
there is no link for it on the ati website, only the 5.7.
also, what sort of problems could it cause?

I did a bit of searching and found them here (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=18).

As to the problems with the 5.7s - we've had reports that they cause poor performance ingame...which is a shame since they improve performance on a lot of other games.
