View Full Version : Massive "lag" with new catalyst drivers?

Hello!

My first post so i'll start up by saying Hi to all forum veterans and others alike.

My problem is this:

Played DoW before and I really loved it and now I thought I would try it again and installed and everything went smooth (had uninstalled it from the last time I played). But suddently after trying almost every option and combination available from the game's graphic test/calibration I still get a massive lag ingame (we are talking Singleplayer btw).

The last time I have a memory of like 1024x768@32 with most of the things on medium and some more nice features on "On" and it wasn't near any lag at all even in big fights.

My computer setup is P4 3.0GHz w/ 800MHz bus, 2x512 400MHz ram and 9800PRO and no programs running in the background and tried to reboot to get a clean ram-memory.

Have watercooling so the it isn't the temps fault either, can it be my new graphic drivers (5.8) or the fact that my harddrive is pretty full, got about 10GB free of 120GB? But I mean I never heard of that being the cause for slow game behaviour.

Thankful for all answers and suggestions you might have to help me, thanks in advance - TheSwede86 :howdy:

You're going to laugh when I suggest to roll back to the 5.6 drivers.

5.6 catalysts seem to be the best bet - you can find a download link stickied at the top of this forum.

Thanks alot!!!!!

ITS WORKING:D

It was the drivers that was causing the lag. I followed you guys and downloaded the 5.6 drivers and they worked like a charm.

No more lag wiee!

Now I can look forward to Winter Assualt without lag!

keep an eye on these forums for more info - generally newer drivers are better and the 5.7 and 5.8 catalysts do improve performance in other games whilst destroying it in DoW. Apparantly the 5.8s are somewhat better than the 5.7s so hopefully by 5.9 they will have fixed whatever the problem is and you will be able to update again. Its also possible that some of the changes made to the game in WA will result in the problem going away anyway.

I would say your hird drive is overly full as well, can you even defrag it ?
