View Full Version : Patch issues – not balance

Well I don’t know if its coincidence or because of the patch but there seems to be a lot of lag since installing the patch. I’m not the only person to think this either. I’ve played a few games now and others I’ve been playing say the same thing. In fact some say they are now lagging all the time.

What ive noticed is a lot of “Kicked due to extreme lag” messages. Especially when playing large battles of the 3v3/4v4 kind. I just played one on KL and saw 2 on the other team and one on my own get kicked before me.

And I have a fairly good connection. Anyone else notice this?

Not sure this is the right place. It seems to be where most of the other patch related stuff is. Please feel free to move it wherever you think it should be.

What's your body decay at? Did you crank it up high? If you haven't maybe others have, and their comps can't handle it.

The persistant bodies on your computer does not affect the other players body settings.

But if you have your settings on high and your comp can't handle thereby causing lag thereby getting you kicked.

Moral of the story if your computer can't handle it don't force it.

Umm, yeah it does affect the game for other players. If it's causing lag on your computer it will cause lag on their computer, because the frames are synced.

How can this not be known after all the discussions on this forum concerning the source of lag in Dawn of War...?

Ummm no it doesn't affect lag this has already been discussed...

I will see if I can find a link.

It doesn't effect the settings though, which is what .42 is saying,t hough I'm not sure why he is saying it :P but yeah
if your comp can't take it, don't force it. Some people might be expermenting with the new bodies option online, so...yeah :/

Incidently, what does this have to do with balance?

Eh. What has been discussed is that your connection does not effect lag, but you put your computer settings beyond what it is capable of, you will lag yourself, and that lag will be slapped onto the other players.

Edit - Ohhhh I get it now. It has nothing to do with balance, which is why its titled 'not balance' :P

Well I have a reasonably good rig. But you guys recon I should turn the bodies down a little? Or is this a case of all the other guys running 286’s out there.

I’ve always wondered what others are using as I’m always left with the “Waiting for others” message. If it was others though shouldn’t that clear up after they’d been kicked? This is the first time it had happened to me and it didn’t seem I could still look about.

Define 'Resonably good'. If the setting is set to high, then more bodies will 'accumalate' and take up resource. Eventually it'll get beyond even a 'resonably good' rig. : /

Hmm i have a GR8 rig and haven't seen one small piece of lag, not even in 2x2 or 3x3 games. Maybe its time for some people to upgrade..... :p

I said “Not Balance”. Balance apparently shouldn’t be discussed yet.

I think I see what your saying though. Your connection makes no difference to others (presumably it does if you are hosting though – forgive my ignorance on this as I didn’t read any discussions about this) but it may be that I am pushing my rig too hard with the bodies. What kind of set-up would you need to run this now then?

I had all the settings maxed before and it worked fine.

Or am I still not getting it?

First replay of the people who have problems, it cant be me it has to be the other guy's machine. Only to see that they themselves are the ones dropping. Dont put on persistant bodies, problem solved.

I just played a 4v4 with the new bodies added and noticed no extra lag from it.

If the servers are jammed with ppl trying to auto-dl the patch, then naturally games wont go as smooth.

I cannot honestly provide a good answer for that. I don't even know what sort of rig you have now, though I'd imagine its one of those mid-ranged to second best rigs I'm using. I suggest you do a little poke around the market for yourself. Its actually kinda fun.

Remember your running another two /additional/ setting on 'high'. (possible presistant decals along with dead bodies) That simply might be more then you can chew. You could probably toss down shadows to low, I understand that causes more lag then it should. While I don't know what you have, I think 'better then that' would be a reasonable answer ;p

Edit - Groundbeef might have the answer, in the above post. Though I would imagine patch and login servers different from the actual game servers.

IRT Cross/Grave:

Yea it could be. I kinda work in the IT industry and get parts “Reasonably” (being the operative word) cheap and tend to rebuild my rig every year or so. I’ve been thinking its about that time again but been putting it off (apart from a Graphics card upgrade about 2 months ago) as it seems to have been working fine.

Can anyone give me an idea of minimum specs to get max performance so I know what I’m looking at?
