I was encountering a situation where DOW would not let me connect to the online lobby. I disabled my firewall (ZoneAlarm) and it still wouldn't work. I ran the net test and it wouldn't even pass the first item.
I later realized, when I went to update my virus definitions, that the current version of Mcafee has some port blocking rules. Once I disabled the rules that were automatically in place to block IRC (6999), DOW multiplayer worked again. I did a little looking and have found that several of the current virus scanners now have basic firewall functions built in now. Just want to pass on that this will need to be checked along with the other standard issues such as router, etc.
