Alright.. So I got Winter Assault when it launched, and I've played it a bit since then, but stopped cause I wanted to change ISP first (constant disconnects in games).
So, I changed, and now I go to play WA and I get the error message about not having the original CD. I've tried a bunch of stuff, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, however, it won't let me reinstall WA.. strangely.. it just won't run at all.
Now, it does read the disc, because I can explore the disc, and see it recognised, but it won't let me use the autorun or anything. Also, I tried deleting entries of WA & DoW from the registry and reinstalling both, DoW installs fine, patched to 1.4, but still WA won't install. I also tried disabling AV software, removing Daemon Tools, and other random stuff.. so nothing worked.
Anyone got any ideas? Mabye it's just my game is faulty?.. since it won't re-install or anything and all..
I don't think my warnings file will help cause I re-installed and can't get WA, but I'll stick it here anyway.
Did you have Alcohol 120% installed at some point?

I don't think I did, I mean, I had it at one point.. but I'm pretty sure I haven't had it installed since I last formatted. I've got Nero installed.. and I know that has a virtual drive thing.. but really, it seems a bit extreme to have to uninstall my CD burning software just to play something..
I also had Daemon tools installed, but removed that; didn't help though.

Use your original CD, not a copy. Copies wont work. Alternateivly, you could replace the .exe files with a 'nocd' crack. Use P2P software to download this.
It's legal, as long as you purchased the game and didn't DL it.

... that doesn't really help; I'm using the original CD, why would I be using a copy? And did you read my post? I uninstalled the game and it won't even re-install, so the no-cd crack idea doesn't really work either, since the game won't actually install in the first place, now.
Dont use noCD cracks - they cause more problems than they solve and also violate the EULA.
Now - to confirm whether or not your copy of the game is faulty...copy the entire CD to your harddrive, if everthing copies over OK then your CD isnt faulty, if you get any errors then the disk is faulty (or its possible that your drive is faulty - you dont need me to tell you how you would go about testing to make sure it isnt the drive).
If you can get everything copied to your harddrive, try installing from there.

It's definetly not the CD drive, I've been using that for everything else and it's working ok, and if that's not proof enough, I tried my 2nd drive, too. I also copied the files to the harddrive, no problem there.. didn't install, though. It's strange, the autorun file just won't work at all, double click it and get nothing whatsoever.
I can't believe this happens when I finally get back to having a good ISP and about to play a lot more WA :-P
Anyway.. I'm out of ideas, I tried the SecuRom fix thing too, and pretty much everything else I could think of.
Dont click the autorun file, click the setup file.

Did you check what disk you have in? that looks like a lack of files compared to mine.

Yeah.. I am in fact, a complete moron. Cause I hadn't played WA in a couple weeks I forgot there were 2 discs.. just took the one that was in the box, and the other one was lyin under some stuff on my desk..
So .. yeah.. carry on. Thanks for the help, people :D
:gnight:
So just to confirm...you were inserting disk 2?
Silly mistake...but understandable, enjoy the game :p

Yeah I was... I mean how often do expansions have 2 discs? Meh. Does explain why when I looked at the disc it was perfect, not a single bit of dust or anything on it :D
So .. yeah.. that's what happens when you forget about a disc you leave lying around somewhere... :screwy:
