Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying a new laptop but I'm not sure what I need in terms of hardware to run DoW on it. Most of the searches I've performed have yielded little in the way of performance reviews for the various graphics chipsets available in the machines on sale here (I'm in Japan btw). Can anyone tell me if the Radeon Xpress 200M or the Intel onboard chips are any good for this game?

Thanks in advance.

Dan;

I'm not familiar with the Xpress series of video cards, but I wouldn't suggest leaving it at an Intel onboard graphics card if you want to play Dawn of War. I don't know if you _can't_ play DoW if that's all you have (Moe? TBS?), but even if you do I doubt it would play very well. Unless someone here pipes up about the variety of Radeon cards you mentioned, I would suggest investing in a Radeon 9800 or an NVidia 5700 or 6600 if it's within your budget. I have an Nvidia 6800 GT myself, and it plays like a dream.

Hope that helps, amigo.

if you intend to use your laptop for casual gaming BUT also want to run DoW in all its beauty, i suggest that you look for a laptop with a discrete graphics card as opposed to an onboard/integrated one.

i personally own a acer aspire 1690 with 128MB ATI Mobility X700 card (Intel Xpress 915M chipset)....runs DOW/WA like a dream.

i dont have much knowledge in X200/Intel chipsets but i can definitely say that from my own experience (my previous laptop had an integrated ATI IGP 320M graphics), that DoW had to be run on the lowest settings to prevent slowdown online...even then gameplay was relatively slow, like playing in Matrix Bullet time.

Yeah - what Moto said. Integrated graphics chips are all well and good for general use (office applications, web surfing, watching DVDs), but if you want to play games then you should go for a real graphics card. From ATI that would be a mobility Radeon X*** (*** = 300, 600, 700 or 800 - the higher the better and you should probably avoid the 300).
