I am attempting to install WA. After a virgin install of DOW (including deleting files left in directory) I get the following msg:
Patching error: You are attempting to patch the wrong version of Dawn of War. Please make sure that you have installed all patches between 1.0 and current patch version.
I also get this msg when trying to just patch it using "DOW Official Patch (1.4) Filename: dow140.exe" from filefront.
I have checked the registry and it says 1.00.0000 (not sure if I got the 0s right here but it was "1." and then zeros so Im assuming its not the problem mentioned somewhere in these forums)...
Am I missing something? This is really frustating as I have been waiting to play this for a long time.
NEED HELP!
Ok I think that file isn't an all encompassing update so I will try that but shouldn't WA patch DOW straight out from 1.0 to 1.4??
Ok so I downloaded the 1.1 patch and it said:
Patching Error: This patch should not be not be applied to your version of Dawn of War
What the frick is going on!??! Can someone help this is driving me crazy! Like the scene in The Pianist where he is starving and finds food in a can but can't get the can open!!!!!!!
You need to patch to 1.01 before patching to 1.1.
Try using the new all-in-one patch to patch DoW up to 1.41: http://www.fileplanet.com/156748/150000/fileinfo/Warhammer-40,000:-Dawn-of-War-all-Encompassing-Patch-v1.41

K I'll try that out tomorrow... will Winter Assault install after that? Why doesn't it install after a clean install of DOW?
thanx

I have tried installation of WA off a ver1.0 DoW before. WA will auto upgrade DoW and after that, it'll begin WA's installation.

Yes, it *should* work.
But, from lw-nz observations (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=80403) about the msi file, installing 1.41 _might_ mean that WA won't install.
If you find yourself unable to install WA with something of a version error, you might have to download and install the individual patches
1.0 -> 1.01 -> 1.1 -> 1.2 -> 1.3 -> 1.4 -> WA -> 1.41

well I have installed it heres how it went:
WA wouldn't install on a clean install of DOW (clean meaning unistall and delete directory - after installation I checked registry entry and it said that it was DOW 1.00.00 _> clean install)
I tried downloading all the patches and ran into the problem that patch 1.1 doesn't work off of clean install either - have to patch 1.01 first
Corrupt patch files (thanx filefront!!) - logged into DOW internet account and just let the bastard update itself with whatever it wants from whereever it wants...
Success! That patched it to 1.3 - WA is 1.4 so I imagine if you patch past that you might have problems installing WA
WA installs.. nice! first skirmish game to try Imperial guard... kinda boring against computer so time to log on and play online... and here we go again
Now it quasi-freezes after clicking to log on - mouse still moves but nothing happens, no splash screen to say "now logging you onto online lobby"
When creating account it gives a splash but same freeze... cant alt-tab need hard reboot...
Well it seems playing this game isnt easy for all of us is it!!!
Any advice would be appreciated as I would like to get online to play. Currently at 1.4 and I was hoping to log on to auto update it... I guess I could try downloading the [inevitably corrupt] 1.41 patch and maybe that will help...
Why is this so frigging hard?
Try downloading the 1.41 patch and installing it first... Can we see a warnings.log please?
The freezing is caused by a software firewall (such as zonealarm) - shut down any you have running and then connect to the lobby again.

If th efreezing is caused by a zonealarm, it might be the grant application access rights dialog that pops up when you first try to connect. You can try to alt-tab out and click the options there or you can add the WA exe to the list of allowed programs manually.
If you want to keep your firewall on, that is.
With an active firewall (especially one with so little in-depth options like ZA) you might experience problems during online play, such as being unable to connect to a host or that no-one can connect to the host after you connected.

woot! you guys rock!
Confirming: giving wa.exe permissions in zone alarm didnt do diddly... shutting it down did however... so Im downloading (yet another) patch (1.41) so hopefully I might actually be able to play now...
is there another (preferably open source or free) firewall program thats better than zone alarm? excuse me for being slightly off topic.
if I get any more probs I'll post warning log.
Thanx again peeps!
You should be able to det permissions in Zone Alarm...but if you want an alternative then you can just use the basic windows firewall (installed along with SP2).
