DOW/WA crash after 2-15 minutes

Installed DOW on a new machine (AMD64 3200+, 512Mb, Geforce 6600GT). Game runs but crashes after a few minutes. Installed WA (to ensure correct patching). DOW/WA both do the same thing, games runs but crash after a few minutes. Tutorial games run for up to 15-18 minutes (action happens slowly, not many objects), skirmish games crash after 2-5 minutes.
I fitted an additional cabiniet fan with no effect, (covers on or off) and the PC reports CPU and MB temps <40DegC at all times. I run with the graphics tool recommended settings, generally all Med or Low, progressively increasing the settings to High over several tests and then decrasing again seems to show the higher settings crash faster.

The system runs many other new graphics intensive games without any problems and the PC spec seems more than addiquate for DOW/WA

I have the latest Nvidia 81.98 drivers, the latest MB 4in1 drivers.

Any suggestions?

Run memtest86 to check for bad RAM.

I'm suffering the same difficulties.

I've recently redone my comp, but it's fully compatible with all the necessary stats for DoW and WA. The RAM is also A-Okay, it's been used before, and it's still in fine shape.

Anyone know the cause of this? I'm going to post it myself, just in hopes of someone else stumbling upon this.

Following advice in another thread I have tried replacing the Nvidia 81.98 with 78.01, 71.69 (the last ones I had working on an older PC) and the Omega drivers..all to no effect. Still get crash to desktop after a few minutes of play.
