I purchased DoW a week ago and have the exact same problem. I know its not Firewall or Router related. So whats up?
In addition, if I log straight to Gamespy on a previous account and tell GameSpy to search for new games it won't find DoW. It finds MOO3, Rome:TW, StarWars Battfront, and BF2 but not DoW even though I have it installed in the default location.
Ok, just ran the java applet port tester thingy here:
Java Applet Port Tester Thingy (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=63593)
And it came back all ports closed.
Apparently to fix this I gotta reconfigure my ADSL modem to a static IP. Ain't got time to fool with it now. I'll have to mess with it later.
My thanks to Excedrin for the excellent Applet identifying the problem and to TBS for the link to the fix.
A large obscene hand gesture to the idiots who coded this online connection system and the morons who decided to have DoW online play connect thru gamespy.
Apparently my docked thread telling people to post their log files failed to get your attention despite the red blinking light next to it.

Before I changed anything on my computer I tried one more time last night and sailed in fine. No problems at all.
So apparently the problem was entirely on GameSpy's end and all the time I spent posting here and fiddling with the port tester was wasted time.

Warbrothers;
It looks like Gamespy was down for a while yesterday and/or the day before. I've logged in twice since midnight (BTW, happy new year to all of you!), once just after 1am and second about half an hour ago (just got out of a game ten minutes ago). You're right on the nose, Vizier; if that was doing it it most certainly was on GS's end.
As it seems your trouble has passed, enjoy the game! :)
