I downloaded some DoW mods from the fileplanet links last night and now I can't get the game to start up. The Mods didn't work either.

The game refused to re-install too. Now I have no DoW whatsoever!

Off to get a new copy tomorrow, any way I can prevent this happening again?

Um, why are you getting a new copy? The problems are specific to your computer not the CD - if you buy a new copy exactly the same thing will happen when you install that.

To fix the problem, delete the DoW install directory and the DoW entries in the registry (if theyre still there - this thread (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=51566) will tell you how to find them).

If you still cant reinstall then post back telling us exactly what error you are getting.

To stop mods messing up your game in future make sure you are downloading mods for the correct version of DoW (patch yourself up to 1.41 and then only get 1.41 compatible mods).

PS moving to tech assistance since this isnt a bug with DoW.

Thanks for this. (Getting a new copy because my computer-literate flatmate says there's something wrong with the CD, scratches etc, doesn't work on his computer either, should have been clearer about that.)

ah, well if the CD is scratched then that does mean a new copy is needed (unless you get one of those kits that are supposed to fix scratches on CD/DVDs or send the CD off to somewhere that does the same thing with better equipment).

I doubt that mods are responsible for the scratched disk though ;)

A small hint, to save yourself some money look at scratchbusters. pretty random i know, but the £5-7 involved is worth it compared to the £20-30 of a new game. try googling it.

Its a UK company however, so if your american then you wont have any luck.

EDIT: Good, i didnt want to bring someones hopes up only to crash them down again. thanks TBS :)

There will be equivilent services in the US - google "CD repair" and you will probably find some.
