i forwarded the udp 6112 port on my router
here are the results i got from firefox
Sending udp packet from 6112 to 6112
Waited with no reply, make sure udp port 6112 is forwarded.
i tried that network tester on internet explorer and there is an x where the network tester should be.
why is this happening?
That means you need to download Java (since it is a java based tester).

hehe, ty for the link
weird, i forwarded the port on my router and im still getting
Sending udp packet from 6112 to 6112
Waited with no reply, make sure udp port 6112 is forwarded.
i set up the static ip using this link from the network tester thread
http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
btw can i make it so that 2 computers on my network can be forwarded so they can be in direct join games, but theyre not going to use that port at the same time?

Is this a home network, or are you at a college or something?
If it's a home network, get all your IP information (IP Address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS and alternates) together. If you don't have it, ask your ISP for it, unless they use dynamic IPs.
Make sure all that info is entered correctly in your router, then find the listing of the IP addresses the router hands out. It should be somewhere on the web page you access to modify your router settings. Pick one of the IPs it assigns (usually one toward the top, I use the first one I can) and set your computer to that IP, like you did in that portforward link.
Also somewhere in the router, there should be a page for port forwarding.
Set up these ports (I'm sure you've seen the list before)
UDP 6500
TCP 6667
UDP 27900
UDP 27901
TCP 28910
TCP 29900
TCP 29901
UDP 29910
TCP 29920
UDP 6112
I think I had another program that used a port between 6112 and 6120, because I have that one set to both UDP and TCP, rather than just UDP. You might try that, too.
Once you have your ports forwarded in the router, static IP set in the router if possible, and static IP set on your network connection on the computer, save and exit from the router, save all your computer settings, and reboot.
Oh yeah, one more thing. If you have a software firewall turned on, like Windows Firewall or ZoneAlarm, turn them off and disable them while you're playing. As far as I know, most, if not all, routers function as hardware firewalls, making the software version rather redundant. I was a little nervous about doing it originally, but I've got awesome AV and Spyware killers, so it's never been an issue, and the only time something's gotten onto my computer was when I let it. Now, I don't have any software firewalls running, ever.

its a home router
and i use persistant port forwarding right?
not application triggered?

I would assume either would be fine, but yeah, to be on the safe side use persistent.

weird....
i forwarded all the ports you said to and disabled my firewall and im still getting
Sending udp packet from 6112 to 6112
Waited with no reply, make sure udp port 6112 is forwarded.

Is the windows firewall active?

I had this exact message from the net test too. To solve it (and I thought I tried everything) I simply opened up DoW WA and when online. Once online I tried to join a game. It worked. I then got out of the game, closed the program and tried the test again. The 6112 passed. Nothing else worked.
Good luck.

windows firewall is off
ill try joining a game
o yeah is it possible to have 2 computers on the same network that can join someone else's game?
No, unless you're playing a LAN game or using third-party software like Hamachi and the direct connect option.

okay thanks for everyone's help
ive found the problem, my friend was trying to connect to my computer's ip address, but somehow direct connect works with my WAN ip address
anyone know why?(im just curious why my ip address didnt work)
Well, where is your friend? Is he connected to the same router?

your LAN ip is like saying you live in your parents' basement, and he lives on the 2nd floor, naturally you can see each other if you were in the same house, but it wouldn't do much if you weren't.
rofl, you solved the problem.
maybe sometimes I'm too enthusiastic!
did you fix your own IP in the network settings?
I've got a Netgear router and I have to call an IP for the adressed ports.
This is how I have it running:

It's german but I translated the important things. You have to fix your own IP adress, so the router knows who you are!
no he is not
There's your answer - anything on the internet only "sees" your router from the outside, which is why your friend has to input your WAN address.
