I am running some small LANs at the moment, 2-4 people and we are suffering ugly lag. The worst is 3 humans vs 3 computer enemys. The humans were 2 x IG and 1 x SM. The computer enemys were 3 x Ork and then the next game was 3 x Chaos.
Once the armys started to grow things get pretty ugly for all of us, eventually getting so laggy it is pretty much unplayable.
All our PCs are AMD64 3500 or higher and the lowest gfx card is mine being a x600, the others being 7800s aroudn abouts. We all have atleast a gig of matched pair corsair or higher. The LAN setup is via ethernet firstly into a Belkin internet router, but obviously we are using the ethernet ports, not wireless. One cable goes to a 2nd router which then feeds 2 more PCs. It sound crazy but were in study accomodation and we are on different floors. It has to be this way.
I am interested to know how people have maximised the performance in a LAN for DOW because at that rate, we cant really play more than 2v2 and its the big battles of 3 humans vs 3 computer opponents that were really after. We do have a older 16 port switch that we could try. I have also asked about UDP and if we need to open ports on the PCs and/or the routers in order to get data flow smoother and more efficient. My first thought is that our PCs just dont have the muscle to deal with that many individual characters on the battlefield but I want to be sure my network is performing correctly first.
Any tips would be awesome....... :grouphug:
TIA
