View Full Version : Ranked games and quitters....

Ok, from what I can tell, when somebody quits a ranked game, the game is not counted in the stats (this is lame IMO...read below). The first time I played the full version online, I played for about 3 hours. During that time, I had a 5 game winning streak and guesstimated about 8 wins and 6 or so losses. I go look at the stats and it says I have 3 wins and 4 losses (yeah, I do suck at this game :nyah:)....what a waste of fricken time. I didn't realize it at the time but in hindsight I can't believe that half of my game contained quitters. I just wanted to verify that is the case and rant a little bit below...

I know that the immediate cave-man reaction is "game no fair, game no count" but that becomes a detriment for a number of reasons:

1) This encourages "win-loss/ego ho's". I've noticed that people who quit 99% of the time are on the losing team. Having these games count in the rankings would discourage people from quitting as now these people know they have an "out" to keep their precious ego intact.

2) Once somebody quits, you may as well quit the whole game. I like to play "just for fun" as much as the other guy but I'm playing ranked games for a reason (achievements among other things) and it becomes a 10-15 min. waste of my time when somebody quits.

My suggestion is as follows:

1) Player that quits game gets a loss (whether his team ultimately wins or not) and zero points.
2) Team with advantage
-Wins game - gets win and full "points"
-Lose game - gets loss and zero points (that's right,
you lose to a team when you have the
advantage and you are uber-penalized
3) Team with disadvantage
- Wins game - gets win and "double" points (reward
winning while at a disadvantage). Gives
the team with the disadvantage an
extra incentive to win the game
- Lose game - get loss and full points

#1 discourages win/loss wh*res from quitting games
#2 gives team with advantage incentive not to "tank"
#3 gives team with disadvantage extra incentive to stick with it and actually win the game (hey, I've won at least 2 games while down 2v3).

Thoughts? I'd really like to hear from the devs to see if they think a system like this is fair and realistic to implement (in future games of course). I understand the need for ranked random matchmade games (deters collusion for purposes of stat "rigging") and if this is the way it's going to be on Xbox LIVE, then some conditional arguments need to be added, IMO.

In other words, should you come up against some team far superior to your own, and one of theirs quits, and the guys better than you win, the other guys get screwed over?

The fact that you've won that way shows that your way wouldn't work out fairly.

I'd say simply have the person that dropped not recieve (or lose) any points, and have the remaining players just keep playing. They recieve normal bonuses/losses.

I agree that Leavers should always get a loss, it discourages leaving, and if worst comes to worst you give the player a bad gamercard rating.

No double points or half points system though, as it's unnecessary.

I was going to comment on how this would be unfair to people who quit for reasons beyond their control (ie power surges), but then it could be abused by people quitting so they don't lose.

Thanks for the comments guys. I do realize that my suggestion is a bit extreme. I was just trying to think of a way that would give the team where somebody quit more of an incentive to win the game. I do agree that just counting the damn thing would be better than not.

The best thing they could do is have all ranked games count regardless and at least give quitters the loss and zero points automatically.
