I was wondering if somebody could clear something up for me in regards to deleted posts, as i've been hearing a lot of different takes on them lately, and to be honest i'm a bit confused. Basically, who (in terms of user groups) can see what? Thanks in advance. :)
Also, my apologies in advance in case i've missed something vital somewhere that I shouldn't have.

senior members, moderators and administrators can see deleted posts, though as I understand it, all users can see where posts were deleted in forum issues. Us seniors however, can't see what was in the post that was deleted, I think that's something that's reserved for admins.

senior members can see deleted postsAhh, so thats why I see deleted posts all over the place. Us seniors cannot see the contents of the deleted posts though.
Regular users can't see deleted posts.
Senior members will see "Post from XX deleted by YY with reason ZZ" plus a timestamp when browsing a thread with deleted posts.
Staff members will see that thing as well and can also view the contents of a deleted post.

Ah that would explain me seeing the deleted post by Mikail in between ion and Mnemeth's posts (#12 and #13 if I recall correctly.) this (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=92544&page=1) thread.
Thanks to the rest as well.

...what really is the point of this?

For me it's quite reassuring. I know that I'm not going mad and there really was a post there.

In addition, we can write sekkrit messages in the "reason for deleting" window.
I would like to see a "this post has been moved message" too.
Happened more than once that postings "disappeared" and I didn't find them anymore until I asked a mod of that section.

There seem to be more downsides than upsides to senior members seeing deleted posts, so we've removed it.

Am I right in thinking that one of the major downsides is that people keep asking about it?

Yes, I wish you lot would just shut up about it.
In all honesty though, it just makes lots of threads look messy. Occasionally it's useful to see where a post was deleted and why (especially if there are other posts responding to it), but these situations crop up less frequently than one might think, and mostly deleted posts just end up as a distraction from the business of getting on with the discussion.
