hello everybody,
i bought this game way back when it first came out but have only just connected my computer to the internet and thus have not yet played online. so i go to play online and first have to download a load of patches, and i get to about the 5th patch (sorry i can not be more accuarte(its the biggest patch so far buy a long run)) and reboot the game. then an error message appears 'Spooge driver not found. varify that directx is properly installed' :wtf1:


directx is fine i use it in conjunction with other games and have no problems. im stumped, any help?

i think i remember having a simmilar problem as this, are you sure you had at least 3 gigs of drive space avalable before you instaled the patch?

Update your graphics drivers to the latest version. If that doesn't help, post a dxdiag.txt please.

forgive my ignorance, but whats dxdiag.txt
dx means directx rite? thats about as far as i get

The instructions on how to find your dxdiag file are docked at the top of this forum, right next to the red blinking light, in a thread called "When you post a new thread please include your dxdiag.txt and warnings.log". Yeah you need to update your graphics drivers. Yours are three years old. Oh and you definitely need to install Service Pack 2 for WinXP.

If you've just recently got an internet connection, you should also run Windows Update if you haven't already. There are a boatload of security and other updates you should install.

sorry, im not very computor literate but, if by that you mean directx ect. just done now and i still have the problem

Nah the drivers you need are here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

In the 3 boxes on that page, select 'Graphics Driver' in the first 'GeForce and TNT' in the 2nd and in the 3rd pick 'Windows XP/2000'.

That'll lead you to a page where you download the latest driver, just double click the EXE you download & let it install (you can delete the folder it makes after it's finished installing)

Yep, what Aliasalpha said. The drivers are software that basically tell your computer what to do with your graphics card. New versions get released frequently, they usually provide better performance or bugfixes. In your case the drivers are too old and DoW has trouble with it. It's easily fixed by downloading and installing the latest version.

You need to look into that service pack 2 thing, currently your graphics card is running in PCI mode (i.e. slower than it should be), and SP2 should fix that.

anyway, got on tonight played 4 and won 1.

3v3 (my side: orks(me), orks and chaos) (there side: beakies, chaos, eldar) we got mullerd

1v1 (me: orks) (him:beakie) destroyed all in my path :D

1v1 (me: orks) (him: orks) i started off well, took over most of the map and charged his base with war trakks and shootas. i shoulda waited for a mob or two more as my attack fizzled out and although id done loadsa damage id also suffered a few too. i never managed to fully recover and his attack with a squiggoth took me out.

1v1 (me:orks) (him:beakies) i learnt the hard way that you NEED to build listenin posts on your stratiegic points. he blocked me in the corner with lots of fre power and slowly addvanced till i was done for.

could be worse, aye. all in all i think i learnt a lot about playin online and best of all i had a great night of foolin around on me pc

(raises a pint 'o bitter to Da Butcherboss!) Not a problem, mate. Online forums like Relicnews provide a sense of community that I rarely find in the actual game, especially if you're like me and don't know anyone locally that plays a given game. You know, it occured to me I could probably try DoW at 1600x1200 (my 19" supports it and my 6800GT can handle it beautifully, or so I've heard) at some point... still, 1280x1024 seems to be workable right now. 1600 would put a heavier load on the card and probably the whole system to a degree, so I think I'll leave it be for now.

Anyhow, a couple of dl's (one demo and a couple of gameplay movies) I was leaving on auto are done, and the CD I had playing while in here finished a couple of moments ago, so I think I might pop into DoW for a while. Party on, boss! :)
