Tank upgrades

Greetings,
First of all, I'd like to thank Relic and THQ for yet another amazing RTS. Homeworld, Dawn of War and now Company of Heroes, the lines of quality RTS games created is staggeringly impressive.


What I did want to ask however, was in regards to vehicle upgrades that I havent been able to 'unlock' per se. I have seen side-skits and the MG42 mount on the PzKpfw IV available in-game however I dont have the simplest idea how to access it. On the Allied side however, I have managed to get the .50cal upgrade on the Shermans, but for some reason I cant find a way to upgrade the Axis' armored vehicles. I have tried getting vehicle upgrade to level 2, however I believe I am missing something.

Any ideas?

Building the Kampfkraft Center and getting the level 2 tank veterancy upgrades adds the machine gunner to most tanks. Level 3 veterancy adds the side skirts to the Panzer IV and StuG tanks.

So Axis tanks have to gain veterancy in order to unlock upgrades?
Is this true for any other units?

No.

Axis buy their veteran status through upgrades.. which also give armor side skirts and a soldier manning the mg42 on top. Allies earn veteran status by staying alive, killing soldiers etc, however for a cheap cost they can also stick a soldier manning the .30 cal on top.

I see. So is this a global upgrade that makes all Panzer IVs veterans or is it done on a per-unit basis?

Global.

All stugs, panzer iv's, and panthers get upgraded and any built after the fact come out upgraded.
