I can host and people can join, but have never been able to join another player's game. EXCEPTION: I can join games I am invited to, but none from the "play" tab. This problem has existed since the beginning of open beta and through at least 1.16, when this message is posted.
Connection: Comcast cable
Router: Netgear WGT624 (wired, latest firmware)
Ethernet: Nforce2 on-board 100Mbps
Forwarded ports: 6112, 30275
OS: Windows XP SP2

UPDATE: removing the router did not fix the problem.

Can you post a log file from http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt please?
Also, a copy/paste of a IPCONFIG /ALL as well (go to a command prompt and type that).
If you have anything like net limiter (or a bandwidth shaping program) installed, please shut that off.

When you were able to join by invitation, had you tried joining the same game from the game list?
Since this seems to be a permanent problem for you can you try some more detailed tests?
First, get together with the person whose games you can join by invitation.
Both of you should start a fresh run of CoH.
Get them to set up a passworded game.
Try joining it from the list, does it fail?
Get them to invite you, does it work?
Now both of you should quit CoH and post your warnings.log file here right away.
The fresh run and the quitting make sure the log file is only for this issue and that makes it much easier to read.
Thanks!

I tried installing the game on my friend's computer to show him the game, and after about 45 minutes of trying to join games, I believe we have the same problem. We could not, for the life of us, join a game. It would be connecting and then it would say 'game shutting down', every single time. The only times we were able to join a game was when somebody invited us to their game.
(and by 'we' i mean both of us on his computer, my computer at home works perfectly fine connecting to games)
If it matters, we did the correct port fowarding after getting the ports off this forum, and it didn't help
These are his stats:
Connection: Earthlink DSL (same as my connection, which works fine on my comp)
Router: Dlink DI-634M (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=458)
Ethernet: Nforce2 on-board 100Mbps
Forwarded ports: 6112, 30275
OS: Windows XP SP2
Misc: Windows firewall is disabled, he is connected through a wireless connection but the signal is always 'very good' and is very constant/solid/doesn't drop.
There are no software firewalls running, only the built-in firewall and protection services on the router. But we've fowarded the ports so it shouldn't matter.
I'll try the things mecha suggested when he gets off work

Just want to add $.02
Whenever I try and manually join a game, every single time I've gotten "game shutting down" as well. I've tried atleast 40 times.
I have however, played 2 perfectly smooth games via "quick match", though my success rate with that is about 2 for 20. Both times I was a client, not a host.
My firewall allows UDP >=1024, but there are no specific ports forwarded to my game machine, at all.

I spent about 15 minutes trying to connect to a game today before getting into one. I believe the "Shutting Down" message doesn't indicate why you couldn't get in, probably it actually meant that you were trying to join a game that was already full, or wasn't really there. Try hosting one yourself.

I have the same problem. Though when I host a game or do a quick match, no one seems to join them after half an hour.

Muffin, start your own thread please with a warnings.log after attempting to join a couple of games, as well as information about your router and what ports you've forwarded.

OK I have done what Mecha wanted. Here is what happened:
1) successfully connected to passworded game
2) successfully connected to invited game
3) could not connect to random game in "play"
Attached are all the logs.
