View Full Version : Conflicts with Norton Antivirus

My Norton Antivirus has been interpreting signals from the Online Lobby as attacks and is not letting them through properly or simply blocking them outright.

Not sure if this is a bug with relic's code or theirs, since CoH is on Nortons list of programs that are supposed to be given free reign, but I figured you would probably want to know of the conflict in any case.

Give permissions for RelicCOH.exe in your norton's firewall, and make sure you setup the ports correctly.

Moving to Tech Help.

Don't have a firewall Uber, and I had already solved the issue.

Like I said I was just pointing it out, cause I wasn't sure exactly where there fault was though I suspected Norton. That damn program has some shifty eyes... like it's hiding something...

Uber was probably referring to the default windows firewall, also Norton sucks :\.

What did you do to fix it?

Ditto. Use AVG and ewido instead, both good free programs that take up way less resources and dont entrech themselves in your machine, or block programs you want to be allowed.

@ Uber: It was the Internet Worm Auto-detect feature thingy that was blocking the port. My solution was to just shut the damn thing off while I'm playing. Worked perfectly :)

I use AVG as well, Norton just has a few extra features that come in handy. The small annoyances that it creates i can handle.

AVG is actually a piece of crap and doesn't do much. Ewido is fucking awesome because we use it at work for virus and spyware removal. I suggest PC Cillian or Norton for AV

I do NOT want to boycot Norton Anti Virus, but let me explain.

Norton Anti Virus is jsut terrible, even when you gave Norton command to allow specific programs and even when you turned it off it keeps blocking things.

What you can do about it:.

1. Uninstall Norton Anti Virus and take a different anti virus
2. When the message comes that you have to decide if you allow the program or block it, then don't choose at all, let the message stay there and go back to your program / game. This way the message won't pop up and interrupt you anymore.

Though there is a chance that after a couple hours of playing the game or program will be shut down - another bug from Norton.

I hope this helped people.

(By the way, if I HAD to recommend you an anti virus system, then combine ZoneAlarm Pro with Spybot Search&Destroy.
With ZoneAlarm you have a good firewall and with Spybot you can manage everything on your system better, you can run it to find unindentified programs or files on your PC.)
