View Full Version : Resource donation to teammates?

So am I missing some crucial menu somewhere that contains the equivalent of the Diplomacy menu in DoW?
I can't say as I have run into the situation in CoH where I've had an abundance of resources to donate to a teammate, but it came in handy in some of the closer team matches in DoW.
Ditto. I REALLY REALLY wish I knew how to use this feature, or if it is even in. There have been times where being able to give my teammate a tiny ammount of resources would have won us the game a lot sooner.
Also, an advanced feature like "Give <player> 10 Fuel p/minute" would be cool. Also, a unit "gifting" system where you could hand control of your units to your ally would be nice. These are standard in pretty much every other RTS.

Uber teching for the lose. No thanks. I don't want some guy kitting out with Shermans 6 minutes into the game.

Yeah... I can see the balance issues already, now that I think of it that way.

Donating resources would massively unbalance things. One player or even two players could give another player all their fuel, result in that one player being able to tech to tanks long before the other team has access to counters.

I'll second that comment.

I understand what the againsts are saying there, but if the other team has the same ability to donate resources, how is that unbalancing? If the option is available to both sides, and only one side chooses to use it, that's a teamwork/planning issue. Not a balance issue.
Besides, DoW had the option to turn off resource sharing when setting up the match, so if you didn't want "Uber teching for the lose," you didn't have to have it.
Please don't limit the game's options because one way of playing isn't exactly what you want.

DoW resource sharing meant that income was shared. Donations were always possible.
And I'm against resource sharing as well. Players need to work together on the field, not simply get an advantae because they're on teamspeak or in the same room while the enemy must type to coordinate.

How is getting resources from ALL the capped points making it harder for one player? You don't use the same resource pool - you just get the same income.

DoW resource sharing was not real sharing and also flawed, because resources could be "built" in form of generators. In CoH, any capped point benefits the entire team equally.

Wrong. It makes donating everything to one player the ONLY way winning. Effectively stopping all semblence of tactics and strategy past the initial "donate donate donate" "tanks tanks tanks".

As has been said before, this can be abused so badly it's not even funny. The resource system that's currently in place works pretty well. I think it should be left alone for now.

I was always under the impressiong that it disabled donations. Guess I never tried to donate with that flag off.

Not sure how that relates to being able to donate resources to a teammate. I have asked for, and given, donations to my mates using the in-game chat. Seems to work just as well as asking for the same in voicechat. Close teamwork and teamspeak/vent/voicechat proggy of choice usage do seem to go hand in hand these days, though.

Troop or squad donation would be better then actual resource donation.

And I'd still like to see it in. I'd be more than happy to have it a toggle-able switch for the match host that defaults to Off. The mates and I are used to having it from our mass battles in DoW.
I'll drop this for now, I just want Relic to be aware that at least some of the player base was hoping to see this in CoH.

I don't see trading of resources being exploited. Boosting one players production in a match leaves him open to mixed arms from others.
That being said, you could limit resource trading to Munitions and Fuel, and perhaps even trade it at a loss. (say a 3 to 2 ratio or something). Heck, I never have any manpower to trade anyway, and you never should. I've always got too much fuel as Airborne (when playing them) or Defensive for Axis.

I also think unit donation would be a good idea too. Incase a team mate is in short of units.
