View Full Version : ummm why the "sticky bomb"...

it was never in common use during the war... certainly no infantry group at ANY level was equiped with them as standard issue. what would be the point? it would be more likely to get stuck the throwers own clothes than the tank, and was a hated and useless weapon. just like in coh!
i think the devs might have watched saving private ryan a little too much and missed the part where tom hanks says hes using this improvised sticky bomb as a last resort. hence why 50% of the paratroopers who attempted to use one died. if only those rangers had the mighty bazooka like coh
the recoiless rifle was rarely used either. it was used a bit more towards the end of the war, but was never given out en masse. the US copied the german 7.5 cm leichtgeschutz 40, which WAS a paratrooper anti-tank recoiless rifle at 75mm, but we didnt apply it properly until korea. so why is that in the game. just give them a bazooka.. the recoiless rifle was more used by the british who arent in this game.
i dont see why you cant just take out sticky stupid bombs and give them a bazooka shot. i dont give a shit about realism but i really cant see the point of the sticky bomb being put in.
"K guys! heres teh plan! johnson! you take this shit and run up to that tank in the middle of a battle. ohh and im gonna need to take your munitions first... yea, sorry. ok! youre gonna need to stick this shit on the hull of that tiger ace! i know johnson, its huge and has a massive cannon on it but you have to do it! go! oops it only took down 1/9th of its health.. ok! jenkins! go!"
or would they just shoot a bazooka? hmmmmmm. i wonder. it makes sense AND it would balance the game just a tad better allowing allied infantrymen to at least remain behind cover and hit tanks isntead of running at them like tards.

I agree, but if you have massed inf, and they dont have inf support for their tanks, it can be funny watching them try to run away, with 5 sticky bombs on them...
boom!

If you think sticky bombs are ineffective in this game, you obviously have not played enough.

Umm I don't know which sticky bomb you've been using, but the sticky bomb is the most potent weapon in CoH. It almost always damages the engine of the vehicle it hits, no matter where its placed. That makes it pretty damn easy to finish the vehicle off.

its not that sticky bombs suck its just such a strange weapon to pick... and it seems like there's more effective and more realistic alternatives.

Everytime i've tried using stickie bombs never seems to work they don't stickie bomb unless i haven't notice the guy getting shot or actually exploding but i never use stickie bomb... bit impractical, cos by the time you trooper gets to the tank.. the tank blows it up. =/
british who arent in this game.
Will we see brits in the campain?

though soemtimes they are effective, id like to see a timer on how long you can "hold" the bomb for example: you press "sticky bomb" then a mini timer comes up on how long til fuse detanates, so if the tank moves away and the timer reaches 0 and the bomb not on tank then the man carrying it blows up(this happened in world war 2 a few times sinse sticky bombs one of the most sillyest inventions to appear in the infi manual. also many soldiers got blown up using them sinse they didnt get enough time to light fuse then attach to tank before it ran out .(saving privite ryn example of this)

I think some of the videos for the demo had timers on them its possible they will add it to the final build

No, someone from Relic stated there were only two sides in the game when I asked, but hinted at an expansion with them in.
Anyway, as for the sticky bombs, I don't care if they were not used much during WW2, in gameplay terms stickybombs are great. I like them. I would like the option to use a bazooka though, but that might unbalance the game though as then you would have to give the Germans stickies too.

The guy from Shadow Warrior used sticky bombs to great effect! They were awesome little things :D

The funniest thing I've read on here in a while, made me choke on my coffee haha, awesome!

It would have been nice to be able to purchase a bazooka team as a heavy weapons team.

Although quite an uncommon and unconventional weapon, it was used in WW II , so why not include it? Besides, Murphy's Law of Combat covers this:
"If it's stupid, but it works, it isn't stupid."

It was a dangerous, unpredictable improvision....a custom weapon not even a manufactured one, one that cost lives on both sides but it was effective. So lets summerise Dangerous + improvised + explosives = Hell yeh get it in the game (as far as im concerned anyhoot)!

Yes you will see Birtish, canadians even Polish. Just not playable: http://pc.ign.com/articles/724/724235p1.html
As for the Sticky bomb, its alot better than having your Riflemen squads get torn up by tanks without giving something back.

Its about entertainmen based on realism not realism based on entertainment, such small details are trivial but may offend the history boff. Not me though, im happy so long as they sort the balance & bugs. Oh and no i odnt believe the balance is effected by any minor historical inaccuracys

They should allow allied riflemen to buy either a bazooka or Recoiless Rifle, but only 1 per squad. To compensate they can give volks Molotov cocktails that usually destroy the tanks engine.

I have to admit, I'm a total sticky bomb whore. They rock, especially if for some reason Axis gets their vehicles out first and all I have are infantry at that point.

I too 'whore' out Stickies, and the one time I played as Axis made me miss them terribly.
A Ranger or Airborne (with Recoilless) nearby with a few squads stickying stuff works wonders against Axis armour. But damn I wish there was an easier way to take on them Ostwinds...
A possible use for the M10?

Panzers were refitted mid-war with skirts and Zimmerit for a reason....

yeah, it wasent because of sticky bombs... it was because of magnetic mines that zimmerit were added.

Fighting ostwinds is just about the only point of m10s. And since you get the sherman at the same time its not much of a good point.

homing sticky bombs 4tw.... ive thrown a stickbomb at a passing bike before and it followed it for about 6/7 seconds before it actually stuck to it...
that made me chuckle...

Stickies aren't the only thing that home. Watch an Ostwind fire sometime. Every now and then, a shell will go at a strange angle in mid air. The same thing for AT guns and tanks. The shot will miss, but since the game had decided it was a hit, the shell will turn at some crazy angle and hit its target.

Yeah lots of weapons have guidence systems in this game. I had a unfortunate incident of a homing satchel latch onto some of my infantry. I hate sticky bombs they are the bane of me. 2 hits kills a stug or armored car. If I have a tiger and see 3 shermans coming I hold my ground. If I see riflemen coming I turn that tiger around and tell it to run for its life. Tigers with damaged engines are so easy to destroy its scary. The turrets on them turn rediculously slowly and a sherman can just drive in circles around a disabled one to its hearts content.

I've only seen homing satchels if you have infantry in a building that gets satcheled and they exit the building.
