Today I was playing a 3v3 game and on my side came a tiger ace.
I had 4 shermans against it.
I pulled them round the sides and the shermans shells bounced off 50% of the time.
Needless to say they all got wiped after taking about 40% of the tigers health off.
I know its a final weapon type thing but imo the allies have nothing to combat it well.
Arty is harsh but not as bad as a tiger ace with engys repairing it.

Did you have the upgraded gun for the Shermans?
I seem to recall that with the new patch and the cannon upgrade, a sherman shooting the Tiger Ace's front armour will take down half of it's health before going down (I'm quite sure there was nothing else shooting at the Tiger, unless I simply didn't notice a sneaky AT gun).

Every single thread that has to do with OP/imbalance or some other ludicrous claim has to do with 2v2 or 3v3.
Hmm... I wonder it would be the same conditions in 1v1?

Agree with Uber.
Is it greater 2 or 3 shermans? It probably shouldn't be if it is.
Or, on the other hand, maybe it should be since swarms of infantry units can run up to it and sticky bomb it and knock its engine out... which is, debatably, imbalanced, not to mention very disheartening.

Then there's the Calliope, at 60% of the Tiger's cost...that thing is a beast vs everything in it's path.
Calliope rocket launcher is estimated at 5 vs infantry, 5 vs light armor, 3 vs heavy armor, 4 vs structures...not to mention a nice AE affect those rockets have.
Tiger Ace has a 88 mm gun 3 vs infantry, 5 vs light armor, 5 vs heavy armor, 5 vs structures, and 2 machine guns.
You can get two of those Calliopes for 1200 MP... for essentially 10 v infantry, and light armor, 6 vs heavy armor, 8 vs structures, and all kinds of AE death all around.
Where's my axis sticky bomb to knock the engine out?

Oh please...
1) Get the upgraded sherman gun. Your shermans aren't SUPPOSED to do jack shit against tanks without it.
2) Axis armor is superior in most cases. Get over it. A sherman is not an AT gun. How about using some REAL anti tank things. Sticky bombs or, even AT guns or M10s. All will work well.

calliope's rocket ability cost 150 munition and is the armor company's only long range arty support.

You shouldn't really throw tanks at a tiger ace in my opinion. The Ace is not OP at all as the terror general can only get one of it. Also, you just need the right things. AT Guns work real well as I said & ur shermans were probably not upgraded.

Shermans are not meant for killing tanks alone. You need to sticky bomb the engine (that's 35 munitions and you effectively stop a tiger from doing anything meaning full - that's borderline OP) and then you have free reign with it. Bomb it with Howitzers. Outflank it with M10s. Bring in the AT guns. Calliope missile barrage it. Bombing run it.

If anything, I thought the Tigers in 1.17 had become weaker than they were (or Sherman's stronger, please substitute in whichever is the actual case).

I had three lone shermans kill a tiger ace. I lost one. No gun upgrade. You either got really unlucky with bounces (it happens) or you didn't use your tanks properly.

My Tiger Ace last game almost got rocked by 2 AT guns right in front of it. While it's not surprising that AT guns damage a tank on a frontal assault (especially with AP rounds), the speed at which they dropped my Tiger was pretty surprising.
So no.
The Tiger is no longer that fearsome.

My first 1.17 games, I was also sad to see chunks getting taken out of Tigers via their front armour. In any case, they are still tougher than Panzer Command tanks.

Not 3 mines as in the 1 set of 3, the 3 sets of 3. the only damage it suffered from the mines was from teh first set, taking it to 75% and a yellow engine. All the sheman tanks shells and the AT guyn shells all deflected. This was 3 shermans with an upgraded gun.
This didn't hapen on 1 occasion, I say it hapen 2 times previously, were a tiger would be attacked by 3 shermans from 1 side, and an AT gun from another, all shots deflecting. the only damage sustained by the tiger was by the small amounts of dam,age a deflecting shell does.

Everyone complains about tigers and tiger aces being over powered. Mostly as an excuse for not being able to take it down using a strategy. Use sticky bombs like most have said, rangers and paratroopers work miracles too distract the tiger with a sherman or 2 and circle around with recoiless rifles/bazookas. It works. Atleast for me it does.

Well dpens on defences, Tanktraps, mines and a god stance of at. I had a hard game today. I had 3 M10 Volverine and 2 Pershs(later on) plus 3 AT guns with the expl. Shells loades. Those destroyed : 2 Ostwind, 3 Panzer IV and 2 Tiger...an my enemy was definatly NO noob. I lost ALL AT´s in the process and one M10 and one persh...:banana:

I smacked a Tiger Ace down with 2 AT guns and a pair of upgraded shermans just a couple days ago. Thing is hardly OP :P.

If you have the fuel, getting 2x Panzer IVs might be a better idea. After 1.17, I think Axis armour needs more quantity than it used to.
The Tiger simply isn't the stalwart it used to be. That aside, I'd still use the Tiger.

3 star tigers are still gods and kill anything and everything capable of taking on whole armies by them selves.
Unupgraded tigers are probably still the same it's just the sherman thats better.

I'm not really convinced the tiger is really worth it. I haven't played this a lot [Relic Online seems to be having issues], but it seems to cost too much to me and is really easily disabled. Also, the cheaper shermans once upgraded really do manage to pull a number on the tiger too.
Perhaps we need to lab some of these things?

Ah the good old days, when 95% of the AT and Sherman shells bounced off the tigers front armor ;) Thoes were the days.......

It was a bit of a mini-god.
Even the normal tigers were beasts.. and you could get two of them!

a 1 star sherman took 5 hits to the rear at 10m from my 3 star tiger before it brewed up... i was not amused...
