Noob or not noob... he is a player. If he want to play (however he should notice that it will be nice mess and probably die very soon), I have nothing to say then. But never as my teammate ;).

i have no opinion, Noobs need to learn, Once they learn then they can play with the experianced lads. Im sorry but whenever playing with a noob, they either:
Leave at a random time
Leave because there base is getting attacked
Leave when they lose there army somewhere
DOnt do anything, including build or attack
So i play with people with experiance, Provides a better game
So i let them play noob vs noob games. I dont like noob bashing

yh i understand but why not help them?? this can only help you in the future as there will be more people at a higher skill and you will create a friend.
you may say they will get better anyway.. but they will get better quicker if someone helped them.

ok think bout this if you were a noob and you didnt know much at all. wouldnt you like someone to teach you or even to play a better player so you can watch the replay? i would... noobs wont get better if they play at the same level all the time your not testing yourselves taht way. thats why i help noobs and play with them to give them experience. and if you really love your own stats make a new account.

Yeah that other thread pissed me off too, I really hate elite types, I only play games casually and hearing that kind of anti-noob trash wants to make me dish out headbutts. So basiclly I don't bother to play online much. However the reverse is also true if someone is not a noob, geting to grips with the game, but just a supreme retard too dumb to live they also probably deserve a headbutt ...WHACK!

exactly you were all noobs once how did you learn? by playin noobs all the time i dnt think so you probably watched replays of better players played better players or got help and tips from better players so why not return the favour??
and yh its quite hard to type and play but its worth it in the end when you come out with a m8 that can kick ass.

I think that people should play fair and even games. People ought to know when they are in way over their head, and they should know when it's just going to be a noob bashing. I always try getting a game with and against people of my own level.
If I'm in a game against a lot of experienced players, then a noob on my team will often not be able to help much, besides being a minor distraction for the enemies. That'll more often than not mean that I have very little chance of winning, and then the game isn't really fun for me.
If I am on a team of equal players, and we're waiting for the other team to fill up, then it's annoying if a complete noob shows up there too. It'll mean that my opponents will be in the situation that I also hate, but it will also mean that many will leave again when they see their teammate's stats. Often the only ones who will join are other noobs, which will turn the game into a noob bashing.
But I'm really not much for kicking either, at least not without an explanation. That is unless the game has clearly been labeled as 50 %+ or such.

Ifa n00b wants to learn play some skirmishes, cos everytime i get stuck with a n00b they NEVER uild anything, no army (to speak of, maybe 1 guardsmen squad) and they build about 2 turrets and then just wait to see an enemy then suddenly drop. N00bs like tht can just go bugger off, but i dont mind helping a newb cos they are new at the game. But then again im not tht good of a teacher.

I have only played one online game with my account. I was a total noob to online gaming, though I have played some LAN games, usually against computer opponents.
I think it was patch 1.41, so in I come to the lobby I choose SM and it is 2vs 2. My ally is SM too. Against two guard players who are well ranked.
I didnt get any grief from anyone, although I think my ally was probably thinking "oh dear" to his credit he didn't kick me and no one left the game.
I kicked ass, I played really well and despite an early set back. Moving up scouts to capture mid map points, I was rushed by a combined force of 6 guard units. I danced them back to a LP point with a turret being built beside it and they backed off. I lost the middle of the map though.
My ally was building lots of tac marines, so seeign what he was up to I focused on mobile forces like Assault marines and the teched to get dreadnaughts. Time to auto build dreds and some more assault marines.
I became the heavy support for the tac marine launch in to a heavily defended and fortified middle section of the board. I left them all too it and jumped my block of assault marines over the fight and jumped again to get deep in to the enemy base.
i then destroyed power and crucial buildings using melta bombs, while pumping out just enough Dreds to keep up pressure on the front.
The guy whose base I was trashing was not amused and dropped, hi partenr fought to the bitter end to give him credit. Was a great game and I really enjoyed.
You just never know if someone whois new is going to be good or not. That is my point. A little chat before the game might help establish this.
Had I been treated like crap for having no wins or losses I would have never tried WA online.
Now I am tempted to come back, only because people make a game what it is... It is all good and well having a fun gand great game to play but if people don't make it fun, don't try to be friendly and ensure that everyone is included then it doesn't get the player base it should. Everyone can get better, the just need coaching.
Hell, maybe they don't need coaching and can kick your ass back to hell/cadia!
Play automatches if you don't like the thought of maybe ever having to play someone who hasn't got the time to spend 4 hours a night playing this game and memorising build strats.
I don't have that time and don't car enough, I want to have fun. Playing with noobs as you call them, are some of the best times I have ever had in online games. It makes it like playing proper people, you don't like people then get the AI skirmish mod and play a comp who isn't a noob all the time!
Sum it up, about time I know, never judge a book by its cover. Read a few pages and see if you like it before throwing it in the trash, it might just surprise you!

Well I have to admit that it depends on my mood; if i am currently in a good mood and I notice that the newb is willing to learn the game (he talks to others/accepts suggestions he gets ingame) I usually dedicate 2-3 games to them in order to show them the basiscs of the game; I don't do any hardcore rushes then but i don't really go easy on them
but if I am not in a good mood i usually just kick them :(

You see, I've been on these forums for 2 years now and have just got broadband last week. I have played this game every day more or less, or watched replays. Played a lot of the skirmish mod and am decent.
However...I am just about to hit the MP side properly and expect to suck because it plays so differently to skirmish. I've just got to get my head around when to attack really as I tend to hesitate after the first push and tech or mass too much. I expect to get better, but I can only really get better by playing better people and then ideally, chatting over my game with them and then watching replays.
Do I want abuse? Not so much, I know I suck, but I also know what I'm doing to a fair degree and want to get better so as to play with some of the better known peeps on this forum. I don't get why people kick noobs as it's surely better to have a bad player than no player? I confess to typing a lot though...I just have the odd question, such as whether maps you don't have load automatically (after much abuse, it appears...no but then is the question so daft when you have played something like UT?).
Also doesn't help that there are so many non-eldar games and eldar haters. Alright, so they are IMBA and always have been...but they were my TT army and if they get nerfed to oblivion then I will still play them.

letting there pets play the game is a bit harsh unless it's a dog there quite smart, anyway back on topic not all people are like you and ask them to leave politely some are all out nasty about it that's the kind of kicking that is more common ,can't we all just battle in harmony or at least be polite about asking some1 to leave.

True, you only improve by playing. When I began playing online I lost over and over again. I think I played more than 10 games before I got a win, and in that game I was totally crushed and it was my teammates who won the game. For quite some time I didn't like to play much, because the people I went up against just crushed me, without I ever had a chance.
If people will train new players, then that's good and helpfull. I know I could have needed it when I began, and I still appreciate getting advice.
But I believe that I have learned by picking my games carefully. Tried getting some games going against people where I actually have a chance, and thereby give it all I've got throughout the match for the highly wanted win.
When I went up against people way better than myself, I found that I was often crushed within the first 5 minutes, and I didn't learn much by that.
I think that I learn more from really competetive games, than from the games that I either win or lose within the first 5-10 minutes.
I'm still not good. I'd say that I'm average with about 52% wins out of around 230 games. I try getting games against people of 45-65 %. Though I don't mind if there are some people a bit outside of those limits, as long as the game is even.
'help them become good then laugh at everyone that loses to him/her '
whoever voted that is clearly lying.
I lost like 30 games before i won one. But i kept going...

Perhaps what we really need is a really good multi player tutorial in the game! Where the computer has you get rushed in 4-5 minutes, then rewinds and shows you what MP gamers usually do and how to counter and what to look for!

Teaching people is all well and good, but some don't want to be taught. They're just there messing around. Probably the same people who spam the chat rooms. Pros v Noobs is boring for both parties, I agree. If I ever go online I'll be seen as a noob, but I've been playing skirmish AI on hard for a couple of months now, so I know what I'm doing. I'd be offended if someone kicked me for being a noob.
Maybe people should discuss it a bit more before the game starts.
If you were a pro footballer would you just grab 9 other people off the street for a game of 5 a side football without talking to them about it? And then thrash the hell out of them? Without giving them any tips? If you chat about it a bit more you may find the "noob" realises they're out of their depth.

i dont mind helping noobs. but not in games titled 'no noobs'. i join them kind of games to have a decent fight with skilled people who are agressive and play as a team. noobs just spoil them kind of games if you let them play, as it happened last night. played a 4v4 on oasis, random teams, no noobs. one dude on our team had 3 tac squads and didnt move them out of his base to help his allies. so on one side we had a 2v1, didnt have the middle and the other side 2 of ours were holding it against 2 of them. the fact i said, look theres two teams here pls help as you werent going to be attack from the middle cause theres no one there. but all he'd say is stfu and leave me alone. i dont want crap games like that man and even when youre asking them to help, they dont. so therefore they get a kick.
if its an all welcome game or whatever, then i dont care. but it seriously pisses me off when a noob join no noob games. the games take like 10 minutes to set up in the first place, only to be ruined 5 minutes into it.
it might be harsh but theres plenty of other games on the list to join and i have felt pretty bad kicking at times.

Saying "their noobs they need help from someone" is a bit unfair to those who tried to improve by themselves. I didn't play a game online untill I could beat the comp on at least harder with the races I wanted to play and after that I whatched a crapload of replays to see how i'm suppose to be playing online. After that I always joined the "only noobs" games and worked my way to decent score and started playing games with ppl of higher skill.
I'm not gonna show any kindness to the person that comes masses guardians then drops, or to the person that masses termies deepstriked them in his base and does nothing while the rest of the team is atacking and eventualy get pushed back to their bases and killed while the termies are still sitting in his base...
Show no mercy to the noob, for you shall get none from him.
edit: I kick noobs if they join my game and ive named it "no noobs".

When I started playing DoW online, I hadn't completed the campaign or even won a skirmish match against Standard AI.
My apologies to the people ending up on the same team as me back then.
:moose:
I put other. I don't currently have a ranking myself (don't yet play online), despite that I’d like to think I’m at least an average player.
When dealing with a new player, my strategy would be to hold back, let him build, let him throw attacks at me and see how they go wrong. from time to time I’ll throw attacks at him and demolish bits of his base, but I’ll stop short of destroying him completely. I'll back off and let him re-build. By doing that i give him chance to think about what he could do better and actually try it.
Ever heard the phrase "necessity is the mother of invention", that’s the idea here, he will be forced by necessity to change attack and defence styles and in so doing learn how to play.
@ Geust162:
How do you know if somones a Noob? a bad/nonexistent ranking tells you nothing, just becuase this is their first time online does not mean they can't play.

but i never played a skirmish or any campaign on winter assault. i went straight to online game play and i was an average player but i got help and became better.

Quite true, allthough if you've played a lot of other RTS's first it helps a lot (IMO) since there is very littile to confuse you. playing vs people is always diffrent. on Hard AI in the demo you get rushed by the AI with a FC ASAP, somthing that most people do NOT advoacte doing in online play, but good self teaching (if you can do it) is a good way of giving yourself a fighting chance and ensuring that only when playing with the very best players will your inexpirance ruin evryones game, since you should at least be able to be a thorn in the side of an apposing team, as apposed to a complete drain on the rest of the team.

but i agree that noobs shouldnt join no noob games. however some of the best games i have ever had is when me and my m8 played a game against 3 pros with a noob a totally raped them. was amazin and playin with noobs helps you as it makes it a handicap game so to speak e.g. 2v3
I agree noob's shoulden't be in pro only games, it just somtimes comes down to weather they are noobs or not, many people (not you as you have stated) use the rankings which arn't allways totally representetive.
And the Handicap can be a good way of adding to the difficulty, you hit the top and suddenly need a better challange. i use it on skirmish in some other RTS's that have very poor difficulty scaling in skirmish mode.

I treat everyone the way i want to be treated.
Basically, that's the philosophy that governs my life, including online gaming. Since I play the game for fun, I tend to avoid games with weak competition (very new players) or elite competition (you know, the wannabe pros and stats whores). I only play team games--there's really no reason to play online except for the social aspect. If I end up with a less experienced teammate, I might make friendly suggestions. But I never bark orders and accuse anyone of ruining a games, especially if they at least tried. It's just bad sportsmanship to do so. I would rather lose a game with a noobish teammate with a good attitude and a willingness to learn, than win one with a more experienced jerk.

Sometimes you need to treat them bad because they usually don't listen, and if they don't listen and do some stupid sucide run when combined forces can win the game it is gg.
They tend to not attack or do anything but turtle up, when you say go for the center and they send 1 unreinforced squad when the have 3 just sitting there that pisses me off.
So in conclusion I play with noobs but if they do stupid retarded things I tell them to stop trying to think and listen to me then after they get some experience, then I will just coordinate strats with them or treat them as dumb tgame ending trash.. god sometimes I hate stupid noobs.....but never newbies.

I laugh at poeple who think they have some right to call others a noob.
Shame on you who think you're better than others like that.
Always let them play. Because if they play against you you can pwn their ass and have some fun. Then you teach them how to play good and become friends.
If they play with you, you just teach them how to play good and next time you play with the same n00b. You will pwn other ppl with him.

Agreed. Makes me sick that people think they can hide behind a computer screen. People who call others noobs are usually over-obsessive with the game and need some help.

Flawed poll.
Voted other.
It depends on the game, the other players, whether or not I have just won the noob lotto 6 times in a row...
Mostly I dont look at stats, just because they are generally meaningless. If someone displays some sign that they are a noob, I ask them point blank if they think they are up to the fight. I trust their answer most of the time, and either salute them for curage or advise them to find some lower stratum games to cut their teeth on.
If you have a room full of pros and a noob joins, hes probably getting kicked with out discussion as a matter of not wanting to "screw" team 2.... its almost always team 2 that draws the noob.

i would tell the n00b that you are looking for really experienced players, and if he feels like he wants to get owned on then stay, but if you leave i would be happy, then tell them you will leave an observing spot for him so he can learn

There are two choices. If the guy/gal is nice, I spend my time talking to that person. There were instances where I talked to a person for 30 minutes, teaching them the game, what to build, insiting they pick SM as the easiest race, teklling them what units do what. I play them 1v1 next, not to win, but to let them experiment. Or 2v2 vs comps and guide them through.
Lately though I have been seeing aggressive noobs. These join a game, a 2v2 or 3v3, have no clue, do not respond to other players' questions and advice, then say something to the efect of: "you are all losers!!!111 you suck have no life fu** you!111".
:argue:
Now, if you want to play with noobs, make a noob game and have fun. If you want to get better, LISTEN to your teammates when we make a plan or plan a strategy.
If you decide to spend time in a game, and you KNOW you suck, try to see the level of players around you. If you see people with 393 games with 70% win ratios, and you have 8 games with 1 win, perhaps this is NOT for you. :dot:
Generally dont be a moron.
Oh and play 1v1 a lot, this will make you a LOT better.

I actualy like playing with the noob vs experienced clans. Its far more satisfying when you win that way, especialy against the arrogant High ratio players. Doesn't happen often but when it does its a solid gold game recording.

I treat them with a modecem of respect, so that they will come back and play some more--maby even become experieneced. Even when I title a game no noobs and a noob joins, I normally tend to explain to him/her why I would like them to leave and often offer a good amount of time to present their case. Then I kick.

In automatch, its play to win. You don't know who your opponent is beforehand, so I always am polite ("GL HF" etc).
In team games, if I am on a noob's team, I will just play, partially because stats don't reflect a players skill. If it becomes obvious in the first few minutes that they are struggling, I will give them advice, and try to make up for them being on my team. If they are on the opposite team, I will play to win. No point in letting them win for the sake of it. I will give advice if asked, or if I've used a cheap/hard to counter tactic, like IG bunkering the crit on Gorhael Crater.
But I'm never rude to players. It just makes the game less enjoyable for all involved.

I'm not a n00b nor even a newb to this game, only to online playing. So according to stats I'm definately a newb.
Played my first game about a month ago, a 2v2 (IG&IG vs SM&Eldar). All others immediately tried to get me to drop and insulted me quite badly. When the game finally ended (we, the IGs that is, lost.) game scores were: I almost beat the winning duo with more than 2x the scores of my allie. And he was supposed to be 'pro'.
The game was good, the company wasn't. Thx for ruining my first online match in this game. Haven't played online since.
And if I ever meet those guys again... :fight:

I don't think noobs should get any disrespect, as they're players like anyone else
However, I also don't think noobs and pros should play in the same games. Playing someone way better than you is just annoying, and noob bashing is gay.
What relic could do is give DoW separate servers for noobs and pros according to stats...a system used in games like Gunbound (if u dont know it - google it and download it, its a freeware online game resembling worms).
Although that still doesnt fix smurf issues...

The noobs that are just inexperienced and aren't good and appologize, there is nothing wrong with them and deserve your goodwill and support, but... A lot of noobs don't care and almost lose the game on purpose, they have no concept of respect for other people. They think only of themselves and think everyone else in the world exists just to provide them with entertainment so they have no problem leaving a large game on a whim. You give them anykind of lecture in a 4v4 game about not even trying to win and ticking off 7 other people and it always "I don't care, I'm just having fun".
They are the same people who make a lot of noise in the movie theatre and then tell you to F-off when you ask them to be quiet, they don't care that 7 other people waited 20 minutes to get into a game and then its gets "thrown" after 20 more. They are the kind of people who you want to reach your hand through the internet and choke!
I say they should have their CDKeys revoked and if Relic wanted to charge me $5 a month to pay the moderators to watch games and do it, I would be happy to pay. Screw all of them for ruining everyones fun!

As mentioned before, some noobs are infact arseholes.
I have no problems kicking arseholes from my game.
eg. Player joins and says "Turn on QS and high res"
me "no"
them "fuck you, change it now!"
me "ok no probs" *kicks player"
