View Full Version : Heavy Machine guns need serious accuracy / damage boost?

I know they cannot be too powerful for fear of encouraging extreme turtling (though I am myself a fan of that tactic), but they seem very inaccurate at the moment, and not exactly that powerful either, but that is maybe down to them not hitting....

I think that a heavy machine gun should tear through infantry very fast indeed - this would encourage the use of tactics to get round them (snipers, smoke rounds and flanking etc....)

At the moment they take forever to kill a squad off even if they are in the open and this does not seem right with me....

I am playing the beta SP demo, so maybe this has been touched up in the full retail one however...

I will probably just get flamed though, but I feel that this needs to be said and I hope that some of the guys from Relic will read this, because otherwise it is the best RTS EVER.....

They may not kill the entire squad quickly but they render the squad completely useless. They can't move/attack and eventually become pinned and have to be retreated back to the HQ. I'd say that's pretty powerful.

ahem... HMG are not sopposed to obliterate squads in 10 secs. they are made for SUPPRESION. hence why did HMGs have the ability to Pinned! squads? if relic make the HMG into a inf killing machine, why do we bother with your rifleman squads and grenadiers already? we can just spam HMGs everywhere :)

MG squads are a support unit, just like snipers and mortar teams...

They are not designed to be one-squad killing machines - but put them together with a rifle/volks or another support unit - and then you can put together very deadly combinations.

I am sorry, but a fixed heavy machine gun point could easily slaughter a squad of infantry - in seconds if they were ambushed by them. I am not talking about making them into mobile death dealing machines, but maybe they should have a longer setup time (to make them less mobile - i.e more like defense units) a slight pause every so often as gunners change barrells over (meaning your squads have a chance to hit them) and just mkae them more accurate and do a little bit more damage in return.

This isn't about realism, it's about gameplay.

These are fine as they are if you approach a HMG from the front your men dive for cover and will die in a few seconds unless you retreat. Your only option is retreat unless you have a sniper that happens to hit the one manning the gun.

Actually killing trained soldiers with a machine gun in any situation with decent cover is really, really hard. Its a suppression weapon.

...and if there is no cover, the MG *will* tear the enemy a new one.

HMGs are fine as they are. If you want them to kill and supress, get the first veterancy upgrade as axis.

Yes, but not out in the open with no cover, which is what he's getting at. They would easily be killed.

The build up time is long enough. If there is an MG in the open send a jeep and go around it. Yesterday i had Volks with mp44´s and they whipped out a mg crew some engeneers and some paras... Backup your people with the MG. :square: :yield:

Volks get MP40s not MP44s.

Gameplay wise, they are fine as is. Anymore powerful and I fear for what will become of CoH.

hmg's currently are long-range suppression weapons, at closer range and up to point blank they do slaughter infantry very quickly.

They're fine.

The bottom line is that if u made it any stronge it might render infantry useless
