View Full Version : Some help please, with dealing with Allied Normal AI

Hi there, as the thread title says, I'm having problems with the Allied Normal AI, on the St.Hilaire map (I don't even want to know how would it be on the bocage map...) .
I think the core of the problem are allied AT guns, it's the use the AI can make of them that is really, really annoying.
The AI starts spamming them like crazy, to the point that you can see groups of 2-3 of them rampaging across the map, reducing any tanks I make (and I'm making few) to nonexistance in seconds, and pounding down even infantry... also because their LOS is someway wrong, I saw them 'snipe' things they probably had no LOS to, while standing in the shroud, including my own AT guns and MG42 teams, and no one was acting as spotter for them, I'm pretty sure of that.

The only real counter I've found are snipers, but the problem is that the american planes always know where they are, even if they haven't fired a single shot, then it's strafe-run and autopwn for the sniper.
The fact that Airborne AI is a happy AT dropper makes this even more frustrating, anyway his AT guns, with flame engineer/rifle/para/quad support simply advance and tear up any defense, and after they bypass my tank trap line, it's uncap-party for all my points... :lonely:

So far the axis team can win only if my team mate manages to pull out a tank rush on his base, but the AT gun drop from airborne can make that a costly strategy.

I still have to try mortar teams, maybe they'll help.

Anyway any help/advice is very welcome, thanks a lot in advance.

The only advice I have against any AI is to park a tank behind it's HQ. Ai will simply ignore it. However on St. Hilare parking a tank behind 4th or 3rd positions HQ they will beat HQ to %5-6 health then you will have to shoot it again from a different angle to destroy it.

Then tada... a victory as cheesy as it could get :P

Have you tried Volksgrenadiers with MP40s?

you and me must be playing diff AI. Even on hard I rarely see MY AI spawning at guns. Yeah try to forget about stugs and get grens upgraded with mg. Just spam them and you'll win. Then late only get a couple stugs for back up.

n0z3, Volks with mp40s were the 1st counter I attempted, 1 squad of them can kill an AT with 1 or 2 casualties, if they flank it; the problem is when there are 2 or 3 AT guns, or flame engineer protection; also I've lost so many volks to the AI's ATs 'sniping' from the shroud, that it's quite hard to believe that ATs have '1' vs infantry :|

Wow, AI countering your sniper with strafing runs? From what i've seen, those have problems hitting a screen full of infanfry, not to mention one unit in cover.

Snipers counter everything the Allied AI can muster up. Once you capture some of it's AT guns, you won't need to worry about a suprise sherman/mass AT guns anymore. Several snipers + 1-2 volks squads counter everything the current Hard AI can build.
