Vierville

Shortly after midnight on June 6th the largest airborne invasion in history is under way. Paratroopers from Fox Company must secure a vital road link between Omaha beach and the town of Vierville prior to the beach landings.

This is a simple mission that is progressive in nature with the airbornes moving from south to north general directions.

General
If you have gone through the tutorial on flanking, upgrading infantry and using MGs as support. Follow the general guidelines of MG providing covering fire and infantry executing flanking manovures.

Specific
Throughout this mission, heavy support weapons (MG42, AT gun, Mortar and Bazooka) are littered around the maps. In particular the mortars and bazookas are found north of the map. AT guns to the south-eastern. Get your infantry to take over those weapons if you come across them. Make judicious of them.

For aggressive players, set your MG to cover fire, and infantry to flank. For less aggressive players, get the AT guns and/or Mortar, should u have them already, to shell the adversaries' objectives before setting your MG and infanty to mop up the rest. Remember before clearing an entrenched postion, a grenade to clear the way is always preferred.

Finally, the objective doesn't end there, you need to set up obstacles to disrupt and enemy reinforcement. They will be coming through in a lightly armoured vehicle convoy. That is where your heavy support weapons come into play. Set them in the northern bunkers covering the track. Have your infantry mine the track. Should you also left the german AA gun intact, I hope u did, u can man them as they are useful in destroying the convoy.

There seems to be a very useful flaw in the scenario.

If you do NOT capture the final point you will not trigger the convoy. This will give you effectively unlimited time to set up the ambush.

I've never lost this mission, even on the hardest settings using this trick.

If you want a very easy ambush lay stips of mines almost all the way up the road, nothing elaborate just 50-100 point strips down to the point parallel to the top bunker.

It's also a good idea to place a MG42/.30 cal and one or two squads on the mound across the road from the bunkers. This will take care of any infantry that bails out on that side of the road. There's a depression that blocks LOS from the bunkers on that side of the road. Be sure to build sandbags to protect them though.

I've found that if you get enough wrecks to block the road you'll win without killing all the vehicles and troops.

Sometimes AI gets smart and makes a run for it with trucks. I just put mines a few clicks out (aka near where your barracks should be (but on the road)). I have also put one infantry unit with bazooka there, just in case.

Send AT out to spot enemy, after finding a enemy unit, withdraw AT a little, send para to build sandbag defence close to enemy without being detected, set MG behind sandbag facing enemy, move AT forward to expose enemy again, MG will attack spotted enemy automatically. After get mortar, use AT to spot enemy and use mortar to kill them.

Before take a point, setup defence (like sandbag) first in case enemy's counter-attack.

I also mined all the roads, enemy convoy was destroyed before it get close to the bunker.

How are we supposed to support the squads attacking the AT guns? At the east and southwest AA guns, when you get close, a neutral paratrooper regiment is reported as "already attacking" and we should support them. But the only way I've found to help them is to pause the game, grab them, and move them outside enemy visual range or behind foliage so they are "out of sight". Then they just wait there peeing in their pants until I can clear the Germans for them. The SW squad is especially in trouble because they are vastly outgunned, plus Germans from the field to the west move down and catch them from the rear.

Doing it this way, I saved 6/6 of O'Malley's squad on the east side, and 4/6 of the other squad on the southwest. Retreating them immediately has also worked but I think I save fewer members that way.

Mine the entry area like crazy and set mortars behind the foliage to the south. Not in field immediately south (not enough foliage cover) but farther south, near the North-East-East territory / Ammo point.
Also, the cutscene convoy does not appear at the map edge, but slightly lower.

There are endless vehicles, but you only have to destroy 10, per the objective counter.
