I don't have DOW and this question may best be answered by those that do. I'm curious how (or if) mods will be playable online. I'm quite certain they won't be allowed in ranked matches, but if I made a modification, would you be able to join with others using the same mod in the general lobby? In addition, would the lobby 'grey out' games that didn't have the mod you are running, similiar to how it does if they have a different version?

Thanks for any feedback.

I'm going to answer this to the best of my knowledge as it's been a bit since I played DoW online.

You CAN play mods online but....

would you be able to join with others using the same mod in the general lobby?

...I'm afraid not.

In addition, would the lobby 'grey out' games that didn't have the mod you are running, similiar to how it does if they have a different version?

For starters DoW won't let you on the lobby w/o updating to the latest version. Also it will not grey out the game, rather instead you just plain won't see it. I've heard many ppl wanting to be able to d/l custom mods & maps from the general lobby ala Battle.net style. However as it currently stands it's not available. However I do believe Relic is getting away from Gamespy (THANK YOU RELIC!!!) and making their own architecture, RelicOnline, however I'm not exactly sure how that works. Hope this helps in some way.

At the moment no questions can be answered in this regard.

sorry to hijack this, but how to you make mods you do playable over a lan game? How do you have other people "install" your mod, then play it?

Thanks, I didn't see this on the mod. I mostly play this at lans and me and my buddies want to try some stuff, just need to figure out how to get it to work.

We (8th Legion) are currently testing our mod now. You can connect to the lobby fine but you cannot filter (that we know of currently) vanilla/other mod games, they just remained greyed out.

but for a LAN how do you implement a mod for everyone? can you just dump a directory?

Lan play is no different from online play.

If what you're really asking is 'how do I get my friends to install my little mod', then yes, directory dump of the appropriate files will do the trick. (Plus either a shortcut you made yourself or get everyone to run it in dev mode with Corsix's mod editor)

To share your mod with others, you need to send them:
1) The YourMod.module file
2) The YourMod folder
3) Create a text file called YourMod.bat with the following inside:
RelicCOH.exe -dev -modname YourMod
They need to put these three things into their company of heroes folder and then to run the mod they simply double click on the YourMod.bat file

I think I’ve read this some where but can recall it and don’t find it when searching (maybe because I’m a bad searcher)…but here goes;

When the tools for map making will be released will you be able to play them on the relic server? Like playing Counter Strike where you automatically download any new maps, when trying to connect to a game with maps that you don’t have?!

Hope you guys understand what I mean and I hope this future will work, would be awesome if it did.

It is pretty doubtful at the mo I think. Maps in this game are rather large.

If you've made changes to the Locale\english\RelicCOH.csx file, do you have to send them the file and get them to replace the original too?

I think he means usc. And no. From my experience (which could be wrong of course) you do not need to have the sames usc files.
