I've had this game since saturday and I've probably about 25 skirmish matches. I'm at the point where I can beat the Expert AI pretty much everytime.

I guess it is time for you to jump online and play some matches against people if you've mastered the AI.

Although it would be nice if Relic improve the AI as they release patches, would really like to see the AI perform organised counter attacks and use tank traps etc more :D

Well, you're at the opposite end of this spectrum. Some people find the AI easy on any setting, others can't even beat Easy.

I find that even on Easy I have my hands full. Though I can still beat it, it does put up one hell of a fight. Much like the Skirmish AI mod for WA on Normal setting, IMO.

The problem with AI as it exists in games today is that it's not the least bit creative. That's just a hard limit of what we can currently accomplish. You can beat it every time because you've figured out exactly how it'll react to situations.

Until someone invents a proper artificial intelligence, this will always happen to some extent.

Well, our society today is still a while off before we can produce a machine capable of thinking on its own like a human can.

The AI in CoH is actually relatively good in my opinion. It does an admirable job of teaching beginners the basics and still offers a decent opposition for more experienced RTS players to learn the ropes.

I cannot imagine the AI in any game offering unlimited replayability in these kinds of competitive games. Unless it could somehow "learn," I doubt this will ever occur.

I also honestly think that Relic could probably create a super unbeatable AI that doesn't cheat if they wanted to, though it would likely have to be for a specific map and just do everything perfectly and exactly the same each time. However, where's the fun in that?

The AOE3 AI learned - as you played against it many times, it began to adapt to your favorite unit combos and tactics, so I guess it is sort of like some guy online.

Sadly, it still sucked since the tactical choices in that game were very limited.

Yah, I wish the AI was more aggressive. In DOW they tended to come after your points much more.

The AI ganks my points like mad! I usually have some light vehicle waiting to go chase them off though.

the ai in AoE 3 sucked and i could beat it on expert the first time I played the game, it was pretty bad

Well id Thud and his team works on the AI for COH like they did with DOW, I would think they can give the AI a good lift.

trying not using the pause button if you want an AI challenge

The thing about the AI, is that it's agressive and ment to attack a defensive position.

If you're an agressive player you'll win fairly easily, if you play defensivly it's quite hard. You'll notice that many times you can reach an AI strat point... and find no defence at all. Heck, MOST points the AI wont defend. This makes agressive play very easy as there's little defence.

While the AI could be changed to counter that.. I find that it does a great job at getting people out of the turtle mindset. This is great for giving players a jumpstart on the way they'll need to play to do well online.

The "annoying" pioneer attacks that the AI does, is also a great training tool. It forces you to put your attention on many small fights at once, and in general improves reaction times to a threat.

AI needs to play to win and defintely needs to micro its cash flow.

1. Normal A.I is pretty balance in units, but not agressive enough.

2. Hard is something Im not too happy with, theyre agressive like on Expert but seem to fall behind in mid games as if they micro-ed for a rush and failed.

3. Expert is a good all around agressive experience. Now only if the AI can use its unit abilities to its fullness and use the terrain to its advantage; and most of all at least some offensive unit defenses for good push.

AI doesnt want to win, they just like to capture those juicy resource points. It would be nice if rts AI can use containment strats.:author:

I find that normal is quite the challenge, but hard and even expert are actually easier...the AI seems to bunker down a bit more vs. their usual mass agression of point taking and such. They do fight back fairly decently when you attack them, but really seem to pale in comparison to their normal counterparts.

Humans brains edaped, solve problems and seen as brians made AI i would have expected after a bit of time to outsmart the ai and find it easy after a bit. What i mean is that all AI will be a push over after a bit so expect it. Go online its harder to expect things there.

The AI is pretty easy. Just be slow and methodical. Build up a lot of barb-wire tank-traps, and MG emplacements. Secure areas one place at a time and play carefully so you can build up veteran units (with more stripes). You will always win that way against the AI. :)
