View Full Version : Quick Name Change Suggestion

As quite a lot of people have been having name changes, it is quite hard to keep up with who's who. Would it be possible to put in a hack that changes all non senior-members title from "Member" to "Formerly known as xxx" which would revert back to "member" after, say, a month? It would make it a lot easier to keep track of people, which as i said earlier is actually quite a big issue.
Thanks

It's a general policy that name-change candidates advertise the fact in their sig.
IE, if I changed my name to Pants, in my sig I would put "Formerly Known As JAL-18." I don't think it requires the work of implementing a hack.

I'm just saying, that with the "one sig per page" hack it is often easy to overlook the small "formerly known as xxx" in the sig. A while ago a senior member changed his name (can't remember who) and i knew it instantly as it he said so in his title. normal members don't have this option, e.g. I though that Tucker and Hazchem were totally different accounts until a while ago even though he had his change in his sig. Anyway, it was just an idea.

Who is that Mogolov guy anyway...
On one side I agree with member nick changes being announced somehow and that those members become hard to track if no such announcement is made and perhaps followed up byt a statement in signature, or, if senior or above, in title.
On the other, it adds to forum clutter having all these "ex-name xyz" wherever its relevant.
Nick change requests in Forum Issues is good. I wish more did that.
I'm all for the signature thingy since my skin here doesn't show custom titles ;)
I can understand where you are coming from though, and believe me, it's even more annoying for mods :)

A lot of people don't bother with putting their old name in their signature. Perhaps that could be made compulsory.

It would certainly be nice if people were considerate enough to put a note in their sig if their name changes... however, that being said, the staff already have quite enough work to do without enforcing it as a rule. Let's just leave it as a strong but friendly suggestion.
