Anyone thinking of making a small mod that removes the heavier vehicles from the skirmish mode? Just leaving infantry and light vehicles. I think it'd be fun to have some non tank dominated games.

Wouldn't think that would be that hard to do. Just remove the option of building what you don't want to build in the buildings code.

yeah, i am thinking of doing this. the problem is all the special units you can summon from the command menu. can't think of an EASY way to deal with/balance that.

You can change the units summoned in the command menu in the /abilities/ folder with corsix's tool. So instead of Tigers, wolverines and stugs it can be changed to light vehicles.

Under Axis_reinforcement_ability_tiger_ace you would open the section action_list/start_target_actions/action_01/squad_table and change it from the tiger ace to whatever.

The 8th Legoin modding group is working on an infantry based mod for CoH. More info, web site ect. still to come.

i did it by making the vehicle buildings cost too much manpower and therefore made unavailable. then i limited the amount of command points to 3, allowing for some basic upgrades without access to the tanks.

oh, and i HAD to knock snipers down a notch. the ai now builds massive amounts of snipers.

infantry mode is interesting. games are MUCH MUCH longer. i just finished a game with me and a cpu vs 2 expert cpus and the final death count was 1300 for us and 1200 for them, our victory. with the hp set lower and the squad count set higher, it was chaos in the end.

There was a thread in the CoH forum about an infantry only mod, is the best thing since sliced bread!

Solecist, can you send your mod on?


kaine904, have you been working on anything since that thread in the main CoH forum? Havent received my LE version yet so havent begun tinkering.

Infantry mod in the works. Balance has already been worked out, the only thing holding us back is a little more tweaking and the fact that the Russians and British will have american models and voices.

Expect a webpage up within a week.

I have been playing skirmish with tanks removed today, and it is great fun.
Big inf pushes backup up by armoured cars and jeeps, have had some great battles.
Also reduced the snipers health and increased costs, which seemed to greatly reduce the sniper spam I encountered early on.
Reworked some of the commander skills, so you cannot reinforce with tanks - Still tweaking this part for balance, will take any ideas on board.
I think I will tinker with the artillery style commander skills also, they are just too damaging for what I want.

I will host the files for anyone who is interested, once I'm happy with it.
It's nothing big and fancy, but it works.. ;)

I am interested in your mod. Would like to try inf only out. Sounds interesting.

with my mod I dont come forward. After work, I slept in at home. Didnt worked today. Maybe, I will do that tomorrow after my lateshift. However extracted sounds, and made a background. Would like to set file into the i-net, but have no dataspace in net for doing that. Is it possible, to load the file up here??


In my small mod, Infantry is much more available, because you get much more Manpower than before (1200). Next thing is, that you have much more popcap (1000) and one flag gives you +300. Units were stuck up to 8 man per squad. Oil and munitions were Goods in short supply, so you have to build up infantry mostly. Because of the manpower and popcap you can buy a lot at guns! So Tanks wont dominate Battles anymore.

I worked on a few things, but pretty much dropped it out of lack of interest. Also, without people allowed to play mods online, and with such a small online community, i didn't think it would be worth it until mod tools were officially released.

But, online there is usually an infantry only game or two. Search for infantry only replay, and you will get a link for one of my replays i posted up not 2 long ago.
If you want to see what it is like, take a look.

i already changed back to vehicles myself, but it's really easy with the modding tools.

in my mod i removed mobile AT and armored cars as well...some of those things are pretty much just tanks anyway.

i'd release it if i still had it. :\
