What are people's opinions on metal and plastic miniatures?

i prefer plastic, you get them in greater numbers and are easier to move around. however metal models are usally more detailed and resilient to damage.

I'm with Guppy on this one. And believe me, my sister can still find ways to break metal models. I have an old model I picked up in a mixed bunch on ebay, turns out its a Genestealer Magus, she snapped his staff off. This bothers me more because she's fifteen, not two or something.

I find metal is very brittle, a little bit of shaking (even in foam transports) and the arms and legs and heads fall off (possibly due to the weight of the metal).
Metal is a lot more detailed for sure. However, I don't like how paint settles on metal (it's very prone to chipping, while its a lot less of an issue with plastic)--again, brittleness.

Then slap her. Or stab her with the Magus' staff for extra irony ;)
I've found that plastic models bounce better than the metal ones.
Though metal generally has better detail that the plastic.

I find plastic a bit easier because they come in greater numbers and are easily transportable etc. Metal on the other hand is a bit of a pain to glue but their models tend to be a bit more detailed and resilient. But sometimes what really pisses me off is when You get some metal models and their close hand combat weapons are twisted or bent. Plastic is also better for conversions.

As a self-proclaimed hobby veteran, I prefer metal because:
it seems nicer to paint,
has a better weight,
is easier to convert than plastic (with the correct tools and skill, of course)
is more robust (bends a bit instead of snapping, demolishes my foot instead of crumbling)
Before my ego grew to its current size, I preferred plastic because:
I couldn't paint anyway,
it was cheaper,
is easier to convert than metal (I had neither tools nor skill)
It didn't hurt my foot as much
Haven't we done this already?

We have. On more than one occasion.
