View Full Version : [AI Problem] Plasma Generators

Hi all! I've just got DC and while I was reading Your posts here I was wondering - will DC rise to my expectations. Well, yes... and no. First I played some skirmish games on insane and... well it was easy, too easy. Why? Computer wasn't building ANY plasma generators. Not at all. It's rare when it does and then, well, he isn't spending resources on advanced units - goes only with basics. Only once he utterly crushed me when his building order wasn't "interrupted" by lack of energy. Any ideas, Folks?
I've got Athlon 1400 and 768 RAM. One important thing is that I've never experienced anything like this situation in DoW and WA.
Cheers,

Btw. DC? Fantastic expansion!

How many AI games has this happened? Was it QuickStart, Which Map?, What Race was the AI? What Race were you?

A lot of maps - for 2,3,4,6,8 players - but no unofficial. All races (for 8 player map I've chosen all 7). No quick starts. And I have chosen every race for me. Man, I have played many games, really.
Thx for quick reply!

Anyone Else encouter a similar problem? Can you provide a Screenshot of an AI Base?
I'll try to figure it this out, it might be a simple problem or a bug

I do a lot of pseudo-observer mode with AI skirmishes (3 player maps). I've noticed this mainly with IG (haven't confirmed others). They would sit there with 3k Req and 200 Power, and still refuse to build Gens. Constantly pumping out Guardsmen and never making use of their vehicle bay.

Now I've observed quick-start game with all 7 races. Chaos stopped at defilers - no oblis, preds. Tau builded one broadside armor units and pumped only basic kroots and firewarriors. Orcs - only wartraks and sluggas, IG - like U said - guardsmen... Eldar - without PG he managed Avatar ^^, SM - they actually builded 3 generators but the army managment was at very low level - space marines, grey knights. Ah, every game I've played was on insane. My buddy told me that, actually, on Normaly difficulity level, AI build PG, but ... normal? :D
Cheers!

I haven't played a lot of skirmish games yet in DC, but the problem you describe is one I encountered as well in WA.
On Hard difficulty, AI would go up the tech tree rather fast, but on Insane, it just rushes with massed tier 1 and 2 units.
Often this proves to be effective, but when it fails, the AI doesn't change tactics, and continues to throw his resources right into your defences :Pike:
When you send your tier 3/4 army against him, his tier 2/3 forces can't do anything to stop you.
The rushing is dangerous at the start of the game, but after 10 minutes, CSM without upgrades can't fight tacs with plasma and a whirlwind.
The extreme numbers and persistant bodies put on high make for nice screenschots though :p
For the Emperor.

I don't have screenshots, but I've also seen this in all AI difficulty levels in various maps while in skirmish. Thought it was very strange to see nothing but tier 1 infantry and tier 2 armor.

I thought I'd chime in just to add that this happened with a Tau AI that was on my team in a 3v3 (2 humans + AI vs 3 AI). We won the game, but our ally never made a single generator (this was on hard mode, and if DC's difficulty settings are like WA's, hard mode uses the same AI as harder/insane). I saved the replay, so I'll take a screenshot showing the game timer and their base. However, the enemy team had a tau member, who did make generators. So I guess this problem is somewhat random.

It seems almost to be a holdover from the AI tactics when you attack a stronghold in the campaign... That's pretty much all they do as well, just rush a whole bunch with basic troops. I think it has something to do with the way they want you to "face heavy opposition the moment you arrive." So, it would seem that since the programmers wanted the strongholds to be the hardest and Insane is the hardest difficulty, why not make Insane difficulty and stronghold AI tactics go hand in hand with each other? If you get what I'm saying...
