View Full Version : Would anyone want to see a Gundam drawing?

Lacking quite a bit of inspiration, I opt to trace/modify an existing drawing from a fellow board member (from gundam.com)
Left is mine, right is from Zaku.

it is VERY good.
However, the articulations seem wrong, not to mention the rather thin waist. A very cool mech, though mechanicaly flawed.

The drawing is less Gundam and more Xenogears/Z.O.E./Bubblegum Crisis in one. Other than that it's quite good, although I don't condone tracing... :err:

Well it's not tracing, the only tracing I did was the head and shoulder, and even that was just for the template. You'll notice a lot of differences in my final drawing. But I'm not there yet, but here's how far I've got.

This is less the americanized version of the "mech" and more of a powered-armor type deal from what I understand.

black jack i know what the difference between a mech and a mecha/Mobile suit/Gear/Orbital Frame is. I just tend to generalize a little too often. That's precisely what i don't like about japanese Mecha: they're too damn flashy. They have rather uselessly oversized parts that make them easy targets, and that's not mentionning the mechanical flaws of these designs.
Note that I DO like japanese mechs, namely Gasaraki TAC armor, ZOEs Idolo and Jehuty, and especially Metal Gear Ray...so i'm not biased or anything. I also bought two gundam model kits. What i'm just trying to say is, as cool as they are, they're flawed.
I agree with Ignus.I like American Mecha's dirty and worn look. All the Anime ones do not appeal to me because they look like show pieces rather than something that's actually been in a battle.
Still a nice picture though

Except for Gasaraki's TAC. Those are MADE for combat

Yeah, but they [the over mantle] do look impressive. I don't really like the mechs from mechwarrier, namely they look rather weak (the legs).

they were not meant to look pretty that's why besides the one's seen in the MW series is only the proverbial tip of the iceberg. There are great many designs not seen in the MW series so you really cannot judge them all since there really are only a few examples of mechs.

I guess, when I said mech the first thing I thought of was the MW2 box cover. But now that I think of it I was perticularly fond of the cover mech from MW4, they just look to.... rustic in designs, I guess that's what you interpret as realistic. And I like that too, I just perfer the anime mechs with the extra sense of fantasy/futuristic/anatomy-familierization added to 'em. And I just can't resist the samurai style of Gundam, :D
Thanks everyone. Would anyone want to color/shade this for me? I'll send you a larger copy of it.

Both have their appeals... for instance, I like the smooth shapes and contours of the Japanese mecha and the functional look of FASA's mechs. Gears are sort of an inbetween and I like them quite a bit.
