Hey folks! There are no doubt tons of strategies and tactics for the game and I was wondering who uses what and who has been defeated by what. This is a strait up strategy thread, so feel free to explain old or new tactics ad you see fit. I once played a guy who Kamakazied mining ships in to my mothership till it died. Pretty sad, but the little buggers were too quick...

Claw formation works best with bomber raids.
And I sometimes use it with frigs, and then shift into sphere when my ships are right on top of the enemy cruisers, destroyers etc.

It doesnt always work, but its good when it does

I play on a small LAN so I dont really get to test my tacticson new players.

Claw for fighters ( no more than 20 per group ), for the rest just groups without formations.. When I had my 100 or so I broke them up into groups of 10 without formations, various tatics thought ( Eveasive for first wave .. about 30 ships, normal for second.. the rest, Agressive once they got there ) also set some groups to defend eachother.. In the last missions my Ion Frigs took out everything with only a few losses.. Also capture as many swarmers as you can, those things even on eveasive can take out almost anything, I had 140 some of them and they were great for saving my fleet.. Also they can take out an enemy carrier in seconds..

Also prior to my last mission, I would tend to keep things on eveasive, better for it to survive and get home than blow up .. Unless it's a do or die :)

But I only play against the comp :)

Always mobilize your ships as soon as they come out of the assembly line. Move out your scouts to the center as soon as you have 3, and keep moving them out in small groups. Same with corvwalls, move them out, 2 by 2 or 3 by 3 to the center of small maps, and support them ASAP. Move your colls to the nearest large resource pocket. Like reki said, always move your ships aggressively, always fight for a better stance on the battlefield.

I got whooped once by a guy with forces equal to mine simply because I hadn't moved to a better position, and he had. My ships were scattered by the time they arrived to attack the enemy and were, of course, destroyed.

Always keep jockeying for a better spot. Right up until the end of the game.
