Is there anyway of copying and pasting objects cos its kinda annoying cos the buttons for copy + past in the editor are always grayed out.

Yes, you use the Stamp Tool. With the stamp tool you can make a selection either by a bounding box around whatever you want to copy, or by selecting the objects you want to copy. With the Stamp Tool you can even copy height maps and terrain textures and transfer whole blocks of information between maps. It is all documented on the wiki (which is a great resource BTW).
