Intro: The Crusade of the Fallen

Here is my current stuff. Nice host of changes and a good filling of back story. Even have signup stuff ready. If I am missing anything, please feel free to speak up.. Sorry if its a bit much.

History:

Once there was a land of beauty and timelessness. Here ruled a fair and prosperous race that slowly grew in power until they could reach the stars itself. Great were many of the projects designed by these wondrous people, one such item was the Fate’s Star space station. Or Fasairah in their tongue. It would be a new home for the many peoples. But before it could ever be populated by more then plants and basic animals the twin stars around the home planet went supernova. In a instant all were slain except for the architect of the space station. He had stayed on his creation slowly refining it and adding touches to his life’s work. The stark realization that no one would ever enjoy the world he had crafted broke this Beings heart. Long did he wallow in the darkness, until one day a slimmer of hope pervaded his mind. What if he were to create the creatures that would prosper and frolic on his masterpiece.

And so he set about his task. Utilizing information he had spent many lifetimes gathering he made a great AI to control the world he was about to fashion. Its first task would be one of great simplicity, and of eventual damnation. The first two children were to be fashioned, Jandar, and Humanity. One was formed to be the perfect state the architect could think of. While the other would be in his own image, by both he would be forever revered as God. With a sweep of his great hand he seeded the fertile plans of the main continents with his offspring. The years flow by as the two races grow rich in culture and life bring enjoyment of untold magnitude to God .

Then came the Week of Shadows. When man would slay his brothers and the god would destroy himself to save those that would be damned. On the first day a jealous Jandar reached the central core of the AI, his desires were dark and foul. He had grown covetous of all that walked and swam. In a great stroke of power he made for himself a army to take by force all he wanted and burn that which was unfit. On the second day the great horde poured forth from the deep tunnels and began the spiral into mutually assured destruction. The damage to life and property was massive, and on the third day did God see what had happened and great was his wrath, he smote the land with bolts of red light and caused the very earth to rise and swallow the demon kin. But their numbers were vast and powerful and the god could not slay them all. On the fourth day God did go to his great smith(AI) and commission great suits of armor that his children would use to fight their killers. But his actions did not go unnoticed by Xanri, the jealous one. His minions swarmed the great foundries warring against both the God and his AI. In the end the programming of the machine was horribly maimed, its main mission shifted from technological advancement to stagnation . The demons did rejoice at their actions celebrating their wanton betrayal and desecration. On the fifth day though did God bestow on the great leaders of his peoples suits of immeasurable power, and they all strode forth and struck at the very heart of the evil cancer growing on Fate‘s Star. Entire sections of the mighty ship were destroyed by the weapons that both sides wielded until finally only three of the great domes did survive. With a great military prowess did Xanri push back his fathers combined armies. Vast had his power grown. On the Sixth day did the bell toll for the fallen. In a act so deceitful and damning, Xanri struck his father with a weapon that cast a great disease over God . The very soul of the god shriveled under its wilting effect and he could feel that he was not long for this world. Then came the final day. When the existence of all those who lived would see the death of something eternal and a beautiful. His power almost completely drained fighting the rampaging sickness coursing through his veins the god decided on one last act. Gathering his finest followers he pierced all the way to the throne of the Jealous one. Using his very body the divine being cast a great cage over his child. The impact smote a great crater far into the lands of frost and snow and the prison delved deep into a volcano from whence it was hoped would never be found.

All the combatants stood in awe. In a instant all would mourn. Both had lost their gods, and families. But lo did several of the smarter generals that had served under God shake off their sadness and turned instead to rage. Unleashing a fury that had never before been seen the humans and their allies drove these demons to the far northern part of their land and cast them down. Burning the fertile plains and forests to ash along with their enemies. All the would mark their passing were great dunes of burnt flesh and cracked forests of their bones. In the end did they emerge triumphant, but at a cost none had imagined. Were once had been a great land ruled by a divine being there stood but a mere shadow of it. Millions had perished, cities had been erased and entire kingdoms had vanished overnight. Only with this finale realization did the people mourn. It would be a dark era. That would last for thousands of years. -Book of Destiny, 1st page Of gods and demons

Many years have passed since that event. Once more the land has grown rich. But the once united peoples have splintered and fragmented, until only petty kingdoms and empires squabble over the land. They no longer remember the bliss they once live instead by the moment. Caring not for their future or past. But something dark has returned. The great Demon Xanri has arisen once more. His corpse cage broken by his hatred and malice. Now as he regains his followers and corrupts the hearts of those still living who still has the power to oppose him.

Goal: The Great demon Xanri has risen in the north. His appearance has caused a great upheaval in all the kingdoms of the land as hordes of foul hell spawn tear themselves from their graves and begin building a twisted kingdom for their master. While across the seas the lands of the mortal races start gathering their forces to combat this threat. Or so it would seem, for some do not harbor the desire to fight evil but the conquest of their neighbors and the emancipation of their treasures. As the waves of war consume all in a maddening dervish of destruction does anyone have the courage to defeat all others and claim complete dominance!
Your empire must be the victor. Ether through espionage, brute force, or diplomacy you must claim dominance over the station.

Space Station: The station was once a place of blistering beauty. The Eden among the stars had been the greatest project any group of beings would ever try to create. In the end though personal ambition brought it to its knees. Once a great sphere of domes had withstood the passage of time. Now only three of these remain. Two retain any basic standard life supporting power. The third is a blasted desert landscape to the north. Its red dunes run with the blood of thousands and the bones of long dead warriors slowly appear out of the sand. To the south the domes are not much better. To the west a great frigid landscape of mountains and pine trees withstand the brutal pounding of the salty ocean. To the east the great jungle encroaches on all that is foreign. Great are the number of rivers the snake through this land. The overall design of the remaining domes forms a crude A. While the two paths to the northern area are but great oceans, the middle passageway is a wide temperate land. The living are scattered among these lands. All but the northern dome.

The Great AI: The great AI that the god had once fashioned so well and dear is a shattered fragment of its past self. Still it regulates the general livability among the domes but its weather patterns have grown unstable. More inline with what nature would do some would say, but it still retains the power to cause different weather patterns if a Techno Magus of sufficient skill were to command it to. Through these same magi does the great forge keep a rein over the people. For it has been put in a technological loop. Advancements in any field are heavily stunted or reversed for favor from this Demi-God. Among these are servants or even new races if something of true importance is done. The great suits of the war still dot the land and more are created by ether the AI or even some talented Magi. Although their power is far less then it once was.

The Two Stock Races:

All the races are relatively in the medieval age

Jandar: The Jahandaria are the perfect beings. They are superior to humanity in almost everyway, just as they were meant to. But the Week of Shadows was hard on them. Their numbers were the first hit as Xanori sought their deaths over all else. Many of the bones that decorated his main castle were from the Jandar. Such was the slaughter that even now their numbers are very low almost 1 to 1000 humans. Many of the greater leaders of the Jandar try desperately to get the AI to forge more of their people. But so far nothing has been accomplished. They do no use the great mechs as much as humanity due to their superiority.

Humanity: They are in all aspects just plain humans. Their usage of large numbers of mechs and techno magi has given them the physical edge they lack against the Jandar. Their numbers have swelled beyond counting and their various kingdoms have expanded to meet the borders of just about any other race that currently lives on the planet.

The Great Mechs:

And God did come the forge master with a great design to aid the weaker of his subjects. Crafted here would be suits of armor never before seen with the strength of a dozen men and the durability to combat the worst of the hell spawn that Xanri could dispatch at them. -Book of Destiny Paragraph 3 Of Implements of Divine War

These great suits of armor stand nearly 12 feet tall. They are siege weapons and knights rolled into one. Any person may learn how to use one of these machines as a extension of themselves. These are not the mechs of Gundam they are more cumbersome and slow. Although the lighter models may move somewhat faster with less armor. Once a honorable suit falls in battle. Ether through to much damage or the death of its pilot many a techno mage has the power to repair it. Using materials and knowledge provided by the AI. These massive war machines are the for front of the various armies as not much wielded by a standard infantry man can bring one down. Ballistae have the power needed, as do catapults. The vast majority of handheld weaponry is ineffective at best.

The usual armaments of these great beasts of war consists of some sort of melee weapon if they are the most basic of models. The more advanced ones have a tendency to have light energy or projectile weaponry attached. Some of the lesser models are able to use great ballistae as crossbows.

The Techno Magus:

A techno mage is pretty much some figure who has gained some attention from the AI. Usually this results in said person gaining access to advanced weaponry or knowledge with which to use. Unfortunately a pact is sealed upon acquiring these items or knowledge. The results of this vary but more often then not punishments of a horrible nature will rain down on those that break their vows and try to “spread” their knowledge.

A vast majority of the items the Magus receive look like more ordinary things. Ie, gloves or a cloak that causes one to be immune to fire or cold. Or even a staff that launches bolts of lightening at their enemies. Some of the greater items that these men receive are able to cure fatal wounds. The majority of the items have a keyword that is bound into them that activates or deactivates their powers. These items are so sought after that many a kingdom has been invaded and destroyed so some powerful artifact may fall into the hands of a envious king..

My Race As Example:

Race/Faction Name: Human/The Great Lenosian Empire
Racial Description: A lenosian is human in all aspects. Although their normal skin is not white but a creamy brown. They pride themselves on their athletic ability and are far more rough then any of their neighbors.
History: The Lenosians are a matriarchal society that inhabits the bitter cold of the South western dome. They were some of the first humans to settle in this region and have carved great keeps and castles through out the hills. They take their name from the first leader of their tribe. The mighty Leno, leader of the lenosian’s ancestors cultivated the land int oa rich and fertile home. But then came a time when the great hordes of the north did press down heavily on the lenosian land, many a brave warriors died trying to hold this wave of barbarians off. Great Leno was one of them. When he fell the warriors of the land fled in fear. Their morale broken, until a new figure stepped forward, the wife of Leno piloting his great war machine. She would lead her people to victory over the savages and avenge her husband, or die trying. Her name would be forgotten from history and she would always be known as the Mistress, the position of leadership in this land would one day be called that same name, as each of these queens died their names to would be forgotten. So only the current one would ever be known under a different title.

The war continued for many long years until finally the enemy was broken like water at the great keep of Lazari. On the day that the war ended marked the start of the Lenosian Empire. After the final battle the great mech of Leno was mortared into place inside the main courtyard facing the gate. Always to remind the people that someone would protect them, no matter the cost.

Since then they have expanded greatly, their population reached over 20,000 several years back. Their machines and techno magus are some of the most powerful in the land and the strong economy has caused a massive surge in the local population as well. But with this came a dire problem for the current leader is not the strongest of rulers. Her short reign started at the age of 16 when her mother was slain by assassins discontent with her leadership. Now she must hold together the empire while battling foes of much greater power then the barbarians.
Main Character: Mialle Netharenn
Age/Appearance/History of Main Character: 19 Years of age. This young lady reminds you of a childhood sweetheart you once had a crush for. She has wide hazel eyes and her fine, curly hair is the color of the midnight sky. It reaches to her shoulders and it always has a turquoise comb imbedded in it.. She is tall and has a lithe build with skin that is chocolate-brown in color. Her face is smooth and many have been caught staring just a little to long. She likes wearing flattering clothes. More then one squire has dreamed that he will be a knight she chooses as a champion.

Mialle was thrust into the position of the Mistress on her 16 birthday. Her mothers blood not yet cold and with a fiery resolve she had the traitors found out and executed, but she was unable to get them all. Since this act her rule has been fair, if not a little weak. She was never really destined to lead. Her mother wished to have another child. But fate intervened. She has yet to prove herself capable of making the goliath war machine in the capital move, and this has been a test of all Mistresses since the first succession. This has caused the local people to believe that maybe Mialle is not the child of their former queen.
Kingdom/Faction Military Strength: The military of the Lenosians is quite potent. But the vast majority is stretched through the land in great keeps that are the center points of defense. The techno magi have been very busy improving their strengths to rival that of any other nation in the least. While the glorious silver mechs stride the land, bashing their foes into the very earth with great blades. The standing infantry though is lackluster. Nothing but standard swordsmen and archers with little to no combat experience in most of the lesser ranks, although the addition of allowing women to fight has bolstered their numbers many of the men fear for their safety. Their numbers of the total armies would be around 30,000-40,000 fighting men and women at any time. So about 2/10s of the population is actively engaged in the military.

Almost every city of over a thousand people has a fortress of some kind to fall back to. Some of the more famous are the Main keep of Lazari and the Spires of Dracknami. The spires contain the vast majority of the techno magus auxiliaries. While Lazari is the capital cities last line of defense.

This kingdom has no navy of any sort due to its landlocked nature. On all sides are great frosty peaks. Only the great Berthis river provides any sort of watery access to the Lenosians.
Diplomacy: These people are at peace with everyone at their borders but the riches of the land might draw some to covet Lenosian wealth and invade in a attempt to seize it for their own..
Interesting Information: To break the heart of the people one need only kill the young Mistress. For she has no heirs. Although doing this will be next to impossible due to the fanaticism that her guards show in their ever vigilant watch.

This sounds interesting, but I'm curious as to a few things.
1) What kind of BW is this? Are we talking the clash of mighty armies and great civilisations? Or a small group of people on a quest of some description?
2) When you've sorted that out, what kind of profiles will this use? You'll probably need to write up one or two.

Oh, and just a tip. If you want to put spoiler tags round something you have put them round the whole piece of text, not just at the start.

1) Its a massive army and empire one. The players can control small groups of people or be generals of entire armies. If they want they can try their hand at the being the king/queen. It also depends on which of the objectives I decide to use for it.
2) Strange then psymon. I used the spoiler tags on both ends and I can't see what is wrong, am I missing something because it looks just like I wanted it to.

Hmm, weird. I see lots of text with spoiler tags at the top. Maybe it's something up with me then.

Nah, I see it too. Sevorak used to do that. As a general rule, if you need to copy several paragraphs, don't do it into the little box, but copy it out and then highlight it and click the tags. Dunno whether that will help.

In any case, I'm intrigued, especially at the "like in Escaflowne" bit. My favourite is option 2, it gets rid of the good vs teh evil nonsense and just concentrates on apocalyptic, no holds barred war. And I've always been one for sticking it to the creator. And an option for, if not godlike, up Seraphiem in the rank of angels-like heroes would be good. :D

Hmm. So you would like to have a war against a godlike entity. Thats fun. Even better if I allow the players to make their own races and throw them into the mix. Although I really wanted to throw aliens in. Nothing better then hacking apart bugs. Also it would help me a bit to go for a massive war with humans and other races. Won't need to think of so many names.

Lestaki
6th Jan 07, 4:13 PM
Creator Gods can beget aliens. Perhaps he's decided his children have just made too big a mess, and it's time to sweep up with a deathly tide of Tyra- Bugg- eer... Insects of Doom before starting all over again. And player created races are always fun.

Edit @ below: Nah, that's more or less it to my easy recollection. Perhaps a general upper limit for tech level, so players don't get carried away. And yep, much luff for Escaflowne, apart from Allen. Hate Allen. ;)

Trandrin
6th Jan 07, 4:19 PM
Lol. Well now all I need to do then is set up a little sheet to show the players what they need to join. Little more history on the station and "god". Am I forgeting anything important?
Oh by the way lestaki have you seen Escaflowne? That kind of mech combat is cool. I mean the more primitive ones are like giant guys in armor.

Race/Faction: The Gloamori
Racial Description: The Gloamori are typically pale, with dark eyes, and with uniformly black hair. They dress in black, with cloaks and hoods. Their leaders ride black horses. They have black banners. Their sacred bird is the crow. As far as they're concerned, black is the new black. However, they can appear somewhat differently to different people, if they feel like it. You won't find a Gloamori of any kind worth noting without his Kadrik knife, a long black dirk made of Kadrik- these knives can cut through anything short of a psycic or magical shield, up to and including the very hardest of metals, with no resistance at all.

Gloamori have been gifted various powers by the God, though all could be summarized as the power of deciet, illusion and trickery. A Gloamori can render themselves invisible or alter their appearence in the perception of others, create dopplegangers of their own form to draw fire and confuse the enemy, draw on their negative emotions to create nightmarish illusions and even wreak great, sweeping changes across the world. Their powers vary- the supreme Gevida can turn night to day or day to night in the eyes of a battlefield, while a lowly Thrall can merely cloak himself from view. All these gifts are innate, and drive Gloamori society; those with more power are also stronger minded, and have the right to rule, while those weaker ones are often softer in mind as well. The exception is those cursed few who are utterly mad and horribly powerful...

History: The Gloamori are a tribal race with origins as far back as the Week of Shadows, where they did absolutely nothing while promising alliance to anyone who asked and watched the world nearly end. They claim fifedom over the Plains of Artenar, lands on the fringe of the habitable zone that often see incursion from various demonic entities. These lands are divided into tribal areas, each under the command of a Hakkra, or leader, who rules by dint of being the strongest of his or her lands. In the centre of the Plains are cast the Five Bastions, the centre of which is the Tower of Gehath. This is the seat of power of the Gevida, the supreme Gloamori leader who comes every five hundred years to unite her people and lead them forwards to glory and ruin.

Gloamori are fairly insular, concentrating on their own affairs above all else, mostly the matter of feuds between Hakkra and the hunting of monsters. The exception is when the Gevida and her lieutenants come, at which time the Gloamori are united and prepare to deal once more with the outside world. A large population of humans live in the Artenar area, in primitive village agriculture under the protection of the Gloamori; lacking both mecha and technomancy, and facing the ravages of that land without the aid of any human nation, they require this just as the Gloamori require the solid support of humanity. This sybiotic relationship is so strong as to make the two nations indivisible- all are the "Gloamori".

Main Character: The Gevida (roughly "Messiah")- brith name Serolphe Sire
Age/Appearance/History of Main Character: 16- so beautiful as to merit the word perfect, in a dark way- with soft, pale skin, dark hair and dark eyes. Dresses in black trousers, jacket, with cloak and hood, riding boots and gloves, and carries a Kadrik knife and a Kadrik shortsword. Her cloak is pinned by the Eye of Gehath, an amber jewel that confirms her as supreme Gloamori leader. With it she can telepathically communicate with them all, see what they see, read their thoughts, and command them absolutely, as well as scry visions of the world's present at will. She has prodigious shadow powers, a mechanical but not skillful aptitude for combat and an intellect that is literally fathomless. In sheer coginative potential she is unmatched, able to learn anything in one simple step, calculate with the power of an AI and draw great inferences from small details. This rampant intelligence informs her every decision, her every word, though she is not always plain about her thoughts.

Also of note:
Malkan- older brother to the Gevida, and her Herald. Wears a necklace and signet ring round his neck that is an absolute symbol of her power, and delegating her power of command to him when needed. Carries two Kadrik knives.
Stravart- around eighty but still hale, the Gevida's Standard Bearer. Carries her sacred banner, a relic that insipres unrelenting determination in all who march under it. Carries one Kadrik knife.
Daron- as old as Stravart, the Gevida's Champion. Carries the Blade of Irdainor, a relic Kadrik longsword, and a Drakenslayer Kadrik Blade- a weapon as long as he is tall, used to fight mecha and monsters alike.
Locké- a contempoary of Malkan, the Gevida's spymaster. Wears the Cloak of Dalzar, allowing him to become utterly invisible, even to the eyes of gods. Carries a Kadrik knife.

These are the Gevida's four lieutenants, with the ancient names that are ansestral just as Gevida is. One of the four towers aside from Gehath belongs to each of them, and all are considerably more powerful than even a Hakkra.

Kingdom/Faction Military Strength: The entire Gloamori race, with some minor exceptions, pregnant women and children, stand under arms. This comes to around 5000, with the majority of those a weak Thrall standard or mediocre Gerad, around 500 Jadik (lieutenants to Hakkra), 100 Hakkra standard, and a scattering of elites under the four lieutenants and the Gevida herself.

The Gevida also commands a small number of Draken and various other mythic beasts, to serve her against mecha and other powerful foes. She herself will occasionally ride out on Datré, a black Draken with the power of sourcery, a breed unique in her lands to her and her four lieutenants. As well as this, she draws on the support of a small caste of Argomancers, innate sourcers with the capacity to heal wounds and fight with minor magics.

Human auxilieries, armed with bow and sword, and hardened by fighting in the Wilds, expand this small force- the elite Warders provide another 5000, and fighting militia another 5000. This brings her total force to some 15,000, a small but elite force.

Diplomacy: Tied to the humans of Arternar as to be indivisible from them. Possess a blood pact with the Draken of the Irchal Heights, commanded by Datré. On good terms with Argomancers, halfborn, exiles, and really anyone inclined to live in their lands- provided they respect Gloamori authority. Extternally, the Gloamori have no major alliances or even diplomatic communication. They are very literally a race of liars, and are treated as such, more or less.

Interesting Information: The Tower of Gehath is effective capital, though the land as a whole is decentralised into villages and towns, with small cities round the five Towers. The Towers are around a mile high, except for Gehath which is severalfold larger than that, and are said to have been wrought by God. They are made of Kadrik and are so, to all intents and purposes, indestructible, and magnify the power of the Gloamori defending them. However, they are far from untakable, if sufficent force is applied.

The ranks of the Gloamori:
Gevida
Her four lieutenants
Hakkra
Harten, Hakkra Potential
Jadik
Jalvagu, Jadik potential
Gerad
Thrall

Cassandraic- mad prescients

Unspoken corrupted ranks. Gravest being Taldan, a Gloamori with the power of a Hakkra and a mind below that of a beast's.

Edit @ below: This from the man who's copy pasted several of my BW's wholesale and changed some of the names? :p

Race/Faction: Phantasms

Racial Description: The Phantasms are humans who have acquired within their bloodline the ability to keep their souls alive after the body dies. Racially their born bodies are dyed with a bluish hue, streaks of turquoise daub their hair and some have strange blue markings across their skin. After the death of their mortal body they must seek out a willing non-phantasm, helpless victim or object to possess, else they fade away within days or weeks. The soul appears a transparent blue, blurring with movement, when the soul possesses another it warps the body to look like the Phantasm, but the thing that marks the Phantasm out as a possessor is the still visible trails of the soul that overlaps the body and blurs with sudden movement. Whilst out of body the soul can fly and pass through most solid objects, and can even be heard, but it cannot manipulate the real world in any other way.

History: They are a nomadic tribe and so travel the land constantly, their original homes toward the north of the middle passage having been destroyed long ago. The reason behind their gift is said to come from those dark days too, as demons and God waged terrific wars in their homeland. The fallout of the battles is said to have knocked what seemed to be a ghostly visage of the living from their bodies. To this day the Phantasms have retained this ability, but are plagued with weak bodies and illness as they pour their energy into their souls and away from their bodies.
Main Character: Raven possessor of the machine.

Age/Appearance/History of Main Character: 76, old for a Phantasm most have faded away after the death of their first or second body. He appears as a normal man, having warped the machine he possesses into his original form, quite tall, thin and yet stockier than most Phantasms. He leads the Falcon tribe, a tribe of spies scouts and raiders.

Kingdom/Faction Military Strength: Tribal Nomads
The Phantasms number 10,000 across the plains as they travel in several dozen large tribes (Falcon, Wolf, Shark, Lion, Rat, Snake, Rhino, Mantis, Wasp, Machine being important tribes led by the mighty Elemental tribe as the head tribe.)
The main tribes are all military tribes, using possessed animals and machines to do their bidding, and protect the lesser farmer tribes who provide food and water for the rest.

Diplomacy: A fairly neutral clan, outlawed by some for attacks and possessions, but liked by others for the passing trade they bring.

Interesting Information: The Elemental tribe does not often give birth to new members but instead takes tithes of the most skilled from other tribes. The key feature of the members of the head tribe is their ability to possess fluid and complicated substances like the elements.

Some Phantasms are able to sculpt their soul form and even material bodies into learnt shapes, like wings or claws.

That'll do for now, probably be edited before soon.
