Make sure you have DX 9.0b installed, and the latest drivers for your vid card (which is what btw?).

9b is installed
can't remember if I have 45.23 installed I know I d/led it.. I'll try reinstalling
I have gf4 4600 (agp 4x) by leadtek (a250)
and I figured out whats crashing it. In video if either:
Hyperspace Quality is High
OR
Detail Geometry is ON
then I crash with the above error. I can email the dump to a relic employee if needed.

you're lucky... mine crashes before i even get to the main menu... no error or anything, just quits to desktop :(
p4 1.7
256 MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX
haven't updated the vid card drivers yet, but it doesn't seem like it would cause the crash....

Do you have 44.03?

Having a similar problem here; I too have DX9b and the 45.23 Nvidia drivers.
My first initial crash was on the switch from the intro movie into 3D mode. After restarting the machine and trying again, I jumped into the Tutorial. I had another CTD just as the scout fighters were being launched. I have not yet restarted, and I can't get past the "Load Level" stage of the Tutorial Loading screen (CTD again).
I tried switching my resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x960, and changing my settings for Hyperspace detail and Detail Geometry. I'll try more resolution and setting tweaks once I finish posting and restart.
I'm also using a GF4 4600, by Chaintech.

No, but it says that Microsoft made the drivers (version 5.1.2001.0) and that sounds a bit weird to me....

If crashes continue, try dropping back to the 44.03 drivers... hopefully Sierras QA guys can confirm that they tested the game with the 44.53 drivers, and we can find a re-creatable situation for them so relic can fix it.

fissure: goto www.nvidia.com and get the latest drivers. you might have installed MS's drivers from windowsupdate.com... not a good idea.

mike: try hitting 'default settings' and load up the tutorial. then if it works hit f10 -> main menu and turn on an option. goto tutorial, rinse and repeat. That way you can find the offending option, if there is one :-p

Hey all, just wanted to report back with my experiences.
At the suggestion of Uberjumper, I reverted back to the 44.03 drivers (via a rollback for me, but they're on Nvidia's site in Driver Archives), and my CTD problem seems to be resolved.
Going back to enjoy the demo!
Thanks again,
Mike

Uber: I've got all the update for my machine (I'm a major gearhead). my board (abit it7) is able to update it's bios automatically w/o going into dos, so it checks every time windows starts :-) neat huh? well, I'm going to see if 44.03 drivers allow the 2 options I'm having trouble with. I played the whole game thru fine, I just want those other 2 options :-).

Tear:
Try going back to the 44.03 drivers to see if that solves your problem. If it doesn't it's not the exact same thing.

I moved back to 44.03 and I could turn on the 2 options in question, but I didn't notice any graphical change. :-p
