starting a SM chapter

im starting space marines, so i decided to make a chapter. "Alpha Warriors" basically the color scheme is a really dark shade of ultra marine blue, with bleached bone highlights. i would like to make an CC oriented army, but i browsed the traits system awhile ago, and they had nothing for assault marines. could someone give me some pointers?

isn't there a trait for taking bolt pistols and ccw in tactical squads? That with infiltrators would do the trick.


Been playing static Dark Angels too long to know the traits system that well. Damn my own eyes.

Trust your battle brothers allows you to take true grit which is very CC oreinted, also im sure theres one that allows you to take assault squads with furious charge as elites.

Yeah, trust your battle brothers + blessed be the warriors (lets you take assault squads as elite if you take furious charge) might work.

Sounds a bit more appropriate for Strat, so it has been beamed up. Or down, depending on what way you look at it.

No Mercy No Respite = Furious charge for tac/assault squad..
Blessed = Can take Assault as Elite, if taken as elite you must give furious charge

And yeah, there's a trait where everyone can exchange bolters for pistol/ccw for free...

Dont expect your army to have traits for long. And theres already a chaos Alpha Legion.

Traits will last another year or so..

That's long enough to make a good 1750-2000pt army and win some tourneys and get yourself a new army based on GW prize support..

whats happening to the traits system?

i chose Blessed be the Warriors and Trust your Battle Brother for Advantages and Eye to Eye and Death before Dishonor as my drawbacks.

i tried this out today with a librarian with a jump pack giving him veil of time, and the one that gives him +d3 attack on the charge. would a librarian be a good choice in this?

A: Blessed = just allows for more assault marines than normal and seperate deployment

C: It's durring any assault, whether you charged or they charged or you're locked in combat, you just have to pass a psychic test.

Another option is to grab the BA codex and decide that your chapter because of this and that other freak reason you want to think of, are a "count as" BA. Lots of CC goodness there.

theres another idea i have for this. having Blessed be the Warriors and the one that allows bikes as troops. would this be a good combination?

Take the fight to them lets you take BP and CCW.

Id personally take be swift as the wind and trust your battle brothers.

i think doing a blood angels successor chapter is the best idea. the army list is in this and last months white dwarf the codex will be legal for longer than the current sm one.
they have a very cc oriented army list and i think they can take assaul squads as troops choices. if you do a successor chapter your free to do your own coulour scheme as well

It also doesn't have to be a successor chapter in order to do this. A chapter that has a very tribal nature and is very influenced by the societies they recruit from could be represented using the SW codex without being a SW successor. I've been using the BA rules for nigh onto 6 years now to represent the urgent, soul-searing need of my Loyalist Emperors Children to get into CC in order to repent for the sins of their brethren and redeem their soiled name. And they're very clearly not BA successors.

(Now that the Black Rage is gone, I may have to come up with another justification for the ruleset in use as the new BA list, while an excellent list, doesn't have the same in your face flavor that drew me to using it for my in your face crazies.)
