Cheats or no cheats:

I say to few would make it uninteresting, to many would ruin it.

Now, I'm not talking about always having the ability to cheat, but the ability to replay previously beaten levels with the cheats of your choice (no earning them, that sucks) that wouldn't be so bad. It wouldn't RUIN the gameplay, it would just add another level to your supreme godness in the game. And Multiplayer should have CoOp and Infinite RU's and a few other cool things. Mind you this wouldn't RUIN the gameplay. It just adds another dimension.

Just give me my good ol' ACCESS code, and all shall be owned!

No cheats. HW2 is slated to be "fully modable". If you need a preprogramed "cheat" in a fully modable game i need to whack you with my common sense stick. :D

Cheats are lame but if they are only SP it's not so bad.

pfft. i think that if you need cheats to advance further into a game then you dont deserve to see any more of it. watching those fantastic final sequences in games should be reward for slugging it out.

the homeworld security engine is pretty well built. in two years of multiplayer, ive never seen nor heard of a cheat that bypassed the detection system. anyone who says you have - prove it.

Here, here. Truth, honesty, and the Utopian way. I think the majority has prevailed, cheats can be useful at times, but are still dishonest.

P.S. I know a cheat: type ~"throw me out of the game, i'm cheating"~ in the chat bar and send, several times. That ought to get you your just deserts:p ;)

If it'll spice up the game, fine. Don't let them look look like crates, the last thing I need is to try a crate, expecting reinforcements, and get a picture of a coofee-mug instead.

P.S. Would the goats explode on contact, or just splatter?;)

I think there should be 3 cheats that you would know. and 2 more as like easter eggs. What I meant to say was Codes not cheats. Like how to make a heavycruiser go as fast as a detsroyer. Anyway I would like to see a homeworld game with codes but not really cheap codes. Something like the example above. Hehehe!! BLOORGGAMOORG!!!!!:)

i want cheats, i think they can be fun and/or useful at times, here is my idea, IF we ever even GET a hw2, but lets not start a discuaaion about that AGAIN, heres the idea:
1.) cheats are available AT ALL TIMES in SINGLE player mode only, and;
2.) cheats can be enabled in multiplayer ONLY if the server has that option checked. THEN the sever can also choose to enable or disable whatever cheats he/she/it pleases.

I think thats a good way to do it, because sync errors can cause cheat detects, anyway tell me what you think

*cough, cough weezing, arrrggghhh!!! gasp gasp*:D

The only cheat I would have liked in SP HW would have been a resource
injection, like around 1000 RUs. Most of the time I had enough tech,
just not enough RUs to make use of better tech.

I crank out at least 9 (10 total) resourcers and 2
(3 total) research ships, it allows me the best of both worlds.

Do you know what fully moddable means? It means you can do anything to the ships you want. If you think they are to slow CHANGE IT to exactly what you want.... if you think its to easy BEEF UP YOUR ENEMY......if you think its to hard..>BEEF UP YOURSELF... you dont need relic to waste time making hardcoded cheats when you can make them yourself. I in all likelyhood will play the game first... once i beat it ill open up the shp files and make my enemy 50 times harder and play again.

What about for ppl who don't know how to mod?

I think there should be no cheats whatsoever... the beauty of HomeWorld Original was thta it's difficulty level and everything couldn't be changed... that a mission could never be made easier or harder, that you had to EARN the right to play the next mission... cheats would take away from that. True, you can spend weeks banging your head and trying to beat one mission, but imagine the euphoria of finally beating thta mission... in contrast to the somewhat guilty feeling of cheating.

I think we can trust the HomeWorld crew to make the game's difficulty suitable.

just my three cents.

In a fully modable game its as easy as opening the game file and following directions of the dev tool relic gives you. There would be no HEX editing and no craking of exes.
