Hello guys,
I am experiencing a weird problem with my Radeon 9800 PRO.
Everytime I exit the game and come back to Windows, the graphics of drop-down menus are all blurred.
This only happens if I scroll up or down a list of files or a window (even with Internet Explorer, if I scroll down a web page).
If I reset the PC after playing the demo, everything works just fine, so, I guess it's related to antialiasing or refresh rate, maybe.
This happens only at random times.
Any suggestions?

Ps. I am running Windows XP with Catalyst 3.7 drivers, but it happened even with 3.6. I forced the AA and the AF under OpenGL properties, but non under Direct3D.

I haven't got any problems at all, aside from the shadows that I haven't even tried to enable.. running 6x AA 16x AF

Win XP pro, xp 2400+ 1024 ddr 333, Radeon 9500pro clocked, Cat 3.6

Tried different resolutions?

The game is fine.
The problems only occurs when I exit the demo and do my usual stuff on the Internet or under the OS.
Even though the desktop itself is OK, if I scroll down a web page or a list of files in a program, I get this blurred effect.
Then, if I reset the PC or make some changes to the display properties, everything works fine again.
This only happens after I played the demo.
Never experienced this issue with other games.
Best regards.

This has been reported by people that crash out of HW2.

It happens to me regularly to the text in MS Flight-sim 2004 whenever you scroll it. saw it before after playing the hw2 demo too :/

I ran into this awhile ago, no fix yet: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15228
Instead of restarting you can just change your desktop resolution.
Only happens to me when I CTD.

OMG, that's exactly what happens to me!
The only difference is that happens even when the game does not crash.
Phew, so, it's a Homeworld 2 problem?
Thanks, guys.

Yep only HW2.
The thing that strikes me as odd is that yours does it when exiting.
It must be a problem with HW2 relinquishing control of the fullscreen overlays and for some reason it always does this with you.

:shrugs:
I have no idea what is causing it

I have a 9700pro, and YES, if the game crashes or exits abnormally, my windows become scrambled when I move them, or scroll them. I have to reboot to clear the problem.

I have never seen this type of problem before for any application or program I've run on my system for the past 10 months since I assembled it. I wonder if it has anything to do with OpenGL? No clue, just happen to realize it wasn't using Direct3D and don't think I've run anything that uses OpenGL on this rig.

Hello FalseLogic,
unfortunately, my PC shows the problem even if the game does not crash or exit abnormally.
It does that every time I play the demo and exit to Windows.
I wonder why they didn't use Direct3D.
We all know Windows XP OpenGL support is not that good.
I couldn't even play Homeworld using OpenGL, under Windows XP.
Best regards.

Someone else posted a link to an ATI fix that suggests forcing 24bit z buffer or something.. Try that.

Thanks for the tip, UberJumper.
Following your suggestion, I've enabled 24 bit Zbuffer and, while I was at it, I've activated Triple buffering as well.
I will try these settings later on.
Best regards.

OMG.
Those settings did nothing. :[
I am experiencing the same problem as before.
Someone simply suggested to change the screen resolution instead of resetting the machine.
That helps.
Best regards.

Well here's an age old suggestion from HW1 - set your desktop res/depth to the same as the game's, although that didn't help me

You can also try the -w 1024 -h 768 command line options.

that DOES work Uber.

Homeworld 2 is already set at 1024*768, but I don't know how to check if it's using the same color depth.
Any suggestions?
Best regards.

Hello UberSweety,
I don't want to be too optimistic, but I guess your suggestion DID work.
Apparently, forcing the resolution and, maybe, the refresh rate as well does the trick.
So, guys, add the following commands to your Homeworld 2 link and see if that works:

-refresh 1 -w 2 -h 3

where 1 is the desired refresh rate, 2 is the screen width and 3 is the screen height.
Type it exactly as it's written above and remember to add a space between the first command and the ending part of your Homeworld 2 link.
Good luck.
