I found this out on Mission 11. I gave myself tons of time to build a balance fleet because I knew mission 12 was going to be tough. So build 4 carriers and make each in a group number from 6 to 9 and shipyard as group 10.

1) group6 carrier build platforms only(5gun,5ion, 5gun, 5ion...etc)

2) group7 carrier build corvettes only(gun, paulsa, gun, paulsa...etc.)

3) group8 carrier build interceptors and bombers only(int, bom, int, bom...etc.)

4) group 9 carrier build frigates only(4trop, 4flak, 4 ion, 4trop, 4flak, 4ion...etc)

5) group 10 shipyard build BC, destroyers, and carriers only

6) group1 MS build none combat ships and backup builder

This way you don't have to wait for the right ships to be built. Make sure you use Pause when first jump into the new mission and max all your fleets out.

Useful only if you plan on having all productive units in the same area. Early in game sure, later on you want to spread 'em out.

"B" is the hotkey for scrolling between building ships, groups are better used for specific types of units and groups. This is especially true with the strikecraft and corvettes, that you can only micro effectively if each type is assigned to a separate group

I can see where this guy is coming from though, carriers don't have custom names, so often your left not knowing what ship is doing what, logically speaking having a group for each production facility isn't such a bad idea, I wouldn't have thought of it. Of course, Lucky has a point about grouping your strike craft (especially) as it can be hard to get them to do what you want without that edge.

Whacking B all the time just gets you a roughly random pick of a carrier, MS, or shipyard, instead of the one you specifically need.

The only thing I would change with the suggestion would be in mid-game to not restrict myself to using one carrier per unit class. If you need more frigates, pause and build frigates from all six sources, for example.
