View Full Version : Ports forward or trigger with a netgear?

I am using a WGR614v6 router. I play with ports forwarded, and generally I have to restart my router after a game or two online because I get red x's everywhere.

I actually just got this model this week after the previous model my cable company provides decided to give up the ghost. With that router, I got red X's but my main issue was having to restart the router after every couple games, or I couldn't connect to people I just played with. When I first got the game, Uberjumper helped me to the point of getting my ports forwarded. I was able to at least play the game with that router.

I noticed uberjumper mentioned that he thinks Netgear users should now set up a trigger instead. I tried that, and had worse results than with ports forwarded.

Suffice it to say, I'm frustrated. Last night I got red X's all over the place with this new router, and I had to restart my router many times after games because all the games in the menu would show up with red x's after my game.

So, I'm wondering...did I do something wrong that the triggers did not work? Or, is Uberjumper wrong?

It seems like your computer's router isn't correctly configured if you are still receiving a multitude of red 'X's.

So the big checklist:

1. Make sure Windows Firewall is disabled.
2. Run the command prompt and type 'IPCONFIG'
3. Make a note of your LAN IP (most likely to be something like 192.168.1.2), the default gateway is the Router's IP, so ignore this.
4. In your Router's setup, verify that you have correctly forwarded/triggered the ports to your LAN IP.
5. If this still doesn't work, have a look around for DMZ Host in your Router's options and you can, at a potential risk to your systems security, DMZ yourself by inputting your LAN IP. This will open your computer to the internet, removing most of the Router's forwarding and just relaying directly all ports to your system.

Sorry, I should of made it clear. I've done all that. One of the things I had the go around with uberjumper before with my previous router. I've tried all that.

Same results.

Have you DMZ'd your computer?

If this is the case and you are still receiving the red X's then the problem could be something else.
Did the router ever allow games to be played with no X's?
If so, when did it start to act up?
Is your ISP performing any maintenance on the line? (if nothing else has changed on your system).

Yes, I've tried the DMZ a few times. Really not much of a different result. No, I always see X's. As I said, I got this model this week, the previous model did the same thing, also a Netgear. No, my internet connection is fine. They even tested it when they brought a new router.

Here's a folder with images of all the changes I've attempted and the issues that occur. http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c394/vrb75/COH%20Issues/

Hmm, have you been able to connect directly to your modem, to see if the basic unrouted connection can let you see the games without the red X's?

Well, the previous router was all I had. As of this week I have a modem and a router. Problem is I can't get the connection for my computer to work directly with the modem, and I think it is because I am lacking an install disk for the modem. I'm still working on that issue, though it is unrelated to the Netgear router being extremely difficult on COH.
