All

Recently came across this IG who sent 3 builder units to build a turret straight into our base at top speed. I have to say this is the most ridiculously fast and furious tactic i've ever seen !!

Any of you expert have an idea to counter this ???

IG IS STRONG MATE !! FUUU......... :jester:

Far from being an expert but on small 2vs2 maps, very often, the most aggressive side wins the day. IG rushing to build a turret is very often used.

You should revise your build order and its execution (you lost vital seconds with poorly set rallypoints, I question also the way of not stacking orders for a team of 2 builders and going for three individual builders each doing their task)
Chit chat must be done once you have your stacking order piles in effect, allowing you to lose no time.
Building a turret in front of the tau side might have helped in case of TC/VP rush but on 2v2, you should be also to fend it off with the help of your teammate so building a turret so early is a waste of req/power.
Your commander came out too late, he must be one of the first unit to hit the ground.

Main problem is that your team did not control the strategic area between the two bases, allowing space for early invasion.
Still, if you have had the help of the commander from the start + help of the GM + help of the SM tac, you should have been able to kill the builders, probably not before the turret is up. Still a big blow for the opponent. Garrisonning your squads + the commander tearing down the turret will have given you the thumb up needed to blow up the turret. Without taking into account the LP1 coming up.
Turrets with no builders behind do not last long.
A better use of the SM tac back flanking the Tau will have also relieved pressure, hitting the tau player hard very early and certainly living space for this tac squad to do something else like helping to clean last bits of the infiltration.

So revision of the BO and its execution.
Not leaving an open space between your teammate and you should allow to deal with this issue on this map.

bah... fruiting easily counterable tactic.. insead of capping send ur unit & focus fire to kill all the TPs... this will slow ALOT the production/tech of the ig...

TBH im kinda happy if the opponent try the turret rush, bcos imo its a waste of res..
i mean, i prefer to invest res on a army instead of static turrets..

You could have easily pushed off that attack by changing your turrets and LP targets. You had them shooting at the enemies turrets and not the builders and troops. They would of been gunned down as fast as his was destroying yours.

Hey Ivan, were you the guy I played that 2v2 with earlier today, on Torrents? (I was IG)

With all that money spent on the initial push ( actually both of them) he didn't even have any to LP their points.

Your ally could have went and decapped all their SPs. That would have gotten their attention.

Ah, yeah you're der_kommisar? Can't remember what it was exactly, sorry. =( Also sorry about the game too. I watched that replay twice and I just feel silly... Chasing around those raptors like a moron when I should of just built some kroot to defend my base and harassed back him back.

Could of wrecked his cappers and builders so they didn't get those forward positions and force him to chase me. =\ Now I need a time machine and everything would be better. =(

Anyway for a while I thought you were the IG that I'd played with against bigsvintus who was in the replay above.

Thanks guys. Also, are IG supposed to overpower SM ?? If not, how to counter IG in the most effective fashion ?!?

:science: :Hail:

Tier 2 is your best bet. Pull out an early land speeder and mow them down as he tries to put AV on the field, but its a small map so he could go garrison.

Get some Heavy bolters and watch those GM's melt. Attach a skull probe for the extra range.

ASM could work (I don't come across them too much as an IG player, its the usual fast tech to GK) but im not sure how effective. I guess you could get power swords and melta bombs and jump over an take out a gen and jump back.

Yeah, just decap it... don't bother to cap for yourself. I've lost alot of games where if i only knew how vulnerable their base was it would have been an easy win. Usually what you see on the field is what they have.

Offensive Turrets are boring and lame IMO. Seen anything better? Everyday, almost every replay i watch.
IIRC both decided to tech which isnt the smartest since you often get to pay for that if you get hit early, like this time.
