As a non modder, well actually, as someone who knows ABSOLUTELY nothing about modding...I just want to know is the following possible?
If the HW and HWC engines are compatible with HW 2 and, if the code is compatible, would it be possible to have a mod that has Higaran, Vaygr, Kushan, Taidan, Somtaaw and Beast fleet included?
I can only imagine that producing a mod of this magnitude ( if possible) would take a gargantuan amount of time. It would, however, make for some amazing Inter-Homeworld Universe games :)

That does not require any form of engine compatability, just export and import of the models.

The difinitive answer won't be available until the HW2 SDK is released this weekend Angel. HW1 stuff should be relatively simple but Somtaaw and Beast are another story altogether unless you settle for ships that 'look like' Cata ships as opposed to Somtaaw and Beast that actually function like the originals.
Don't know the answer to number of races that can be supported yet either.

Thanks for the feedback on this guys.
I dont know if anyone would even be interested in making this mod or not. I would imagine that it could be popular...but i know most mods tend never to be taken up.
I would have thought that, since there is nothing that actually resembles an infection beam that the Beast may be tricky to include.
However the thought of 6 distinct races with 6 distinct rushes/strats could make for some of the greatest MP games :thumb:

well in my opinion you would have to polish the Kuskan. Taiidan. Sometaw ships..
The opinion of the Beast is Strained tho.
As they feal just wrong for HW2.
I mean in the end of the last mission they said that all Higaran ships was now imune to the infection. :P
also you need to make lots of scripts for the infection beam and edit alot more than you can expect. its much easier to polish the other ones ships to HW2 Quality :p
HW1 ships are much bigger and faster than HW2 ships, so you'd have to mess with that too. I think the hitpoints are about the same.

who would want cata ships in HW2? that would...disgrace.... :-/

Hw2 ships are a bit slower than their counterparts, but they also pack a disporportionate amount of armor and firepower. HW1 ships would get their lunch eaten out from under them on the heavy side, and ream horribly on the assault craft.
To "polish" hw1 ships you'd have to boost their armor or damage reduction to around 200-300%.
No clue on model size, shouldn't be toooo tooo hard to scale them.
I'd like to get kadeshi fleshed out. Since the vaygr apparently are the turanic raiders(come on, who else talks like r2d2?) not much would need to be done there. The kadeshi however would need a carrier craft and resource collectors.
The taii and kushan could with a hefty chunk of extra armor, hold in a fight. I doubt you'd need to put bc superguns on them if their stuff was cheaper. I'd love to jump some bc's with a massed qwaar-jet assault.

what i mean with polish is Pixel wise to make it look new and not the HW's tiny pixels

As for polishing the models...
What format are the HW1 ships?
Can they be imported to Maya (or any 3D-Software that can export to Maya)?
It would be a lot less work to convert them if you could open the originals and refine them...
