View Full Version : Question about engine trail numbers

Does anyone know which number changes the length of an engine trail.

setEngineTrail(NewShipType,0,3,"trail_ribbon.tga",0.1,0.5,0.025,7) .. it appears the 7 changes thickness of the trail.

setEngineBurn(NewShipType,12,0.5,1,12,0,0.7,0.1,25).....and the 25 changes the brightness of the point directly from the engine.

I think I have changed about every number but nothing seems to change the length. Am I looking in the right place?

Possibly the 3, setEngineBurn is for what the "Burn" on the engines looks like (you know how it "intensifies" when the engine is moving?)

For strike craft, speed is what changes the length of the trail. For frigs and up, it seems that the glow is bound. That is, it gets to a point, and then stops. At least, that was the way it was in Hw 1.

I was right about at least one thing-I made some scouts that went 4800 m/s, and they left a trail halfway across the map...

Hmmm...I was afraid of that. Im guessing this means the only way to shorten the length is to mess with the models.

-Update: It looks like Thought was right. The 3 does effect the engine trail length. Thanks!

Yeah, stick the SOURCE of the trail towards the nose of the f ighter. Just have to be careful it can't spray out the side during turns.
